Ok so I was a little vague this morning when I posted regarding the tray ceiling. Anyway, I decided to just have the sides and top ceiling of the tray painted the bungalow beige. I did think about going darker but now Im glad I didn't. The color looks much darker in the recess that it does on the walls. This is a really deep tray and it might have looked like a black hole if it were any darker than it is. Thanks for the input. I am not a visual person and as you can imagine colors are not easy for me. If I can ever figure out how to post a pic I will. Satine

I would keep the tray white- except for the lowest ceiling elevation (I would paint this the new wall color). If you paint 50% wall color, then you must repaint if you change the color down the road. You can't go wrong with a crisp white ceiling. Instead- I would replace the fan with a much nicer design or a chandelier. People often feel pressure to accent trays but they are beautiful understated in white.

Your photo is of a coffered ceiling. Is that what you'll have? If so, consider beefier beams instead of the thin wooden planks which can come off looking a bit like a dropped ceiling made of acoustic tiles. A rustic coffered ceiling can be gorgeous, but IMO it needs to have substantial presence. Some inspiration...

@Jennifer Carter Thank you for your comment. It may be hard to tell in the picture, but the trim is semi gloss and the rest is ceiling flat. I will take a better picture this evening. @Susan Davis Thank you. It has grown on me now that the second coat is done. I think like you said, it will be more clear what needs to be done once all the paint is done. @Beverly Thank you for your comments. I think your idea is gorgeous. I am unsure that it would work with the greys though. Also, I failed to mention in my original post, but I do think I am changing out the chandelier. I love it, but, it doesn't quite go with the farmhouse look I am doing. Our last house was browns with lots of gold and I am just wanting to switch it up and am enjoying the brighter look of the greys and whites.
