Anyway, the specs for these can be found on the Energy Star online spreadsheet, which shows the lumens for the 6" and 4" versions are more like 652 and 620 respectively, the actuall wattage iw in the low 11s for both, and that CRI isn't all that high, 80.2 for the 6" an 81.7 for the 6". Cree's model numbers for these are CE-JB6-650L-27K-E26 and CE-JB4-650L-27K-E26. I was almost about to install the 6" light I bought to replace a hideous swag lamp in the hallway ceiling, but may hold out for the 4" model now. The actual trim rings are more like 7.5" and 6" and are on the HD spec pages. The design is interesting, with a 3-prong holder familiar to CR6/Ecosmart 575L users except it's easily removable if you're installing in a J-box. The 4" version has smaller prongs to cling to 4" cans rather than 6" or maybe 5". There is a pigtail, to which you can attach either a standard Edison socket (included) or a pair of wires with bare ends for hardwiring, which yields T24 compliance. It's dimmable to 5%, rated for 35,000 hours, warranted for 3 years, and rated for wet locations and outdoor use (but I don't think direct exposure to rain, haven't read the instructions yet). Wish the CRI was higher, but nice light nonetheless.

We’ve got a similar issue but it involves a bigger area including the kitchen island. Our fireplace is centered with the living wall but all of the ceiling can lights are centered with the whole room. To add to the issue, we’re also going to have a ceiling fan in the living area. My thought is to remove the center can in front of the fireplace and then shift the two cans closest to the patio wall over to center with the built in on the right side. But then how to hang ceiling fan? Will it look weird if centered with the living area as opposed to the whole room? Ugh!!

In rooms where ceilings are of normal height, I'm not a big fan of recessed cans and other downlights. Surface mount luminaires that reflect light off the ceiling have an advantage over them when it comes to the evenness of the room's lighting. You don't get this indirect lighting advantage with the type of fixture you're thinking of, either. So you need more of them to get good task lighting. I understand your concern about exposing the ceiling's imperfections. But how many of your guests will actually look up to notice them? (That is, unless they end up horizontal for some reason. :-) That said, I think I remember seeing an LED luminarire similar to what you're asking for at one of the big box stores recently (either the orange one or the blue one). IIRC, it had a brushed nickel ring maybe 3" high with a translucent lens in the bottom. You might check their websites. You might also find an LED disk light to your liking. That's a luminaire that mounts in a conventional ceiling box, but looks a lot like a recessed can. I've used a few of them where I had low ceilings. They're OK.

If it is 75 watts, I'm confident it isn't LED. Plus 10 years ago, LEDs were still new and very expensive. How many ceiling lights do you have? You might be better off replacing all of them at once. If two of them have failed, the rest probably aren't far behind. If you are willing to do that, you don't need to worry about matching the color temperature and CRI of the existing lamps exactly, as long as you get the characteristics you are going for. Unless you have some inherent bias against LEDs, you should switch over. They use so much less energy, and they last 10 times longer than an incandescent so you may never need to change them again. If you do go LED, you will need to know what light output to get (measured in lumens). A 75 watt incandescent is equivalent to 1100 lumens of light output. If it is halogen, it's probably closer to 1600 lumens. To find the diameter of the lamp, just divide the number after it by 8: e.g., the diameter of a BR 30 bulb is 30/8ths of an inch, or 3.75 inches in diameter. -------------------------------------- So Oakley, measure the diameter of your bulb and figure out how many 8th of an inch it is. It seems like BR30s are pretty common for recessed cans, Amazon has crappy filters for buying light bulbs because it offers thousands of them but doesn't let you filter by anything useful, like wattage or lumens or technology or type of floodlight. I suggest you try either one of the specialty lighting vendors online (100Bulbs.com, Lightbulbs.com) or someplace like Home Depot (their website is pretty good; light bulbs are under electrical rather than lighting). Or take your lamp to a Home Depot and find someone with an orange apron.
