Alcove soaking tubs good enough?

We've moved into a new house, which I love....except I had to leave behind a wonderful 72x36 Kohler Underscore drop-in soaking tub. Our new master does not have a tub. The shower is nice. With some fairly significant plumbing rearrangement we could fit a big soaking tub in the master, but what an expense!

The hall bath has a builder-grade 60x32 tub/shower. I'm wondering if replacing that with an Underscore alcove or one of the deep Maax alcove tubs would make it a good-enough tub? It certainly would be less expensive, but would I still just be disappointed?

I know that the depth would make that alcove a little less accessible for showering, but it's mainly used by my 12 year old. Our parents would be welcome to use our low-threshold shower in the master when they visit.
