What to do about mismatched wood finishes?

When we remodeled our kitchen in 2015, we replaced the 1970s orangish color oak cabinets with cherry/cinnamon new cabinetry and replaced the oak spindle stair railing with cherry railings. However, the rest of the woodwork and interior doors are still that 1970s orangish oak. Besides the wood finishes looking mismatched, we really want to get rid of those orange-looking doors. What direction should we go? All white doors, trim, and woodwork? A darker oak trim and doors, similar to the new oak trim that is around the white vinyl windows that were installed in 2021? Suggestions? One picture shows the present kitchen along with one of those orange-colored doors and the other shows the new stair railing and the new oak trim around the vinyl windows.

You appear to have white vinyl windows and exterior doors. Paint all the trim white for uniformity.

Have you considered doing your WTs first? To me, it looks odd to see your window below the table like it is now. I'd want to see how the two connect before finalizing that decision. I know you want a lighter feel, but I think you need to maintain a similar scale to the bed. Even if you don't get the ones that are sold with the collection for your bed, that would be a good guideline to shoot for in terms of the dimensions. I also like the suggestion of a skirted round table on your side and Bachelor's Chest on your DH's side. You could also achieve a lighter / less wood look, by opting for painted nightstands or even mirrored nightstands would look stunning.

Thank you all. So the answer seems to be a resounding "yes." Now I have a follow up question. The new window needs hardware and screen. We are painting the window trim similar to the cabinet color (an off white, brookhaven alpine white, which is a little grey). SO, if I go w/ oil rubbed bronze and ss knobs and pulls for the cabinets, should the window hw be stainless or oil rubbed bronze (it is pella, the color is actually "brown," but it seems close enough to the bronze. The door is most likely Fir, whatever you put on it makes it darker. You could try using a two part Wood Bleach to remove the color of the wood. You may just be able to apply a several coats of wax to keep the color the way it looks now.

That first shot made me think, well maybe I could live with it, but the second? No way, it's just too off and at this point no way to incorporate some finishes to try to complement it. I would hate that every day I had to look at it, esp when the rest of your room is so lovely.

I would definitely paint all the trim and doors. You have a mismash of different color trims, etc, and none of them, go with your beautiful cabinets. I would paint them white, because, that would be the best look for your house, even though, I personally, am not fond of white trim. I do like painted trim and doors though, and in your house, white is a huge improvement.

We went through a similar thing when we updated our kitchen a few years ago. The oak trim and doors were looking outdated next to the new cabinetry. After playing around with a few ideas, we decided to keep the wood tones but give them a fresh update.
