Need help from professional painters!!!
Comments (14)Sorry you're having these difficulties!! Yep...roller-lines AREN'T caused by the paint itself!! 99.5% of the time, it's purely "Painter error"! Causes: * Poor technique/equipment... * Overworking the primer & paint... * Pushing coats too thin. "Builders' painters" are used (USUALLY) solely for speed...NOT quality. Many couldn't produce a flawless wall if they were offered a new Ferrari! I'm not a pro painter, but work at an upscale Paint/Hdwr. store. The walls I've done at home are flawless. * I use only the best Roller-covers (Purdy White-Doves or Wooster Pro-Doozs). * Nice stiff-necked roller-frames ) Wooster green-handled Sherlock GT's, with the GT Pole. * Paints: I'm spoiled here! I tint my own C2, ACE-Royal, or Ralph-Lauren, with C2-One primer as my FAVE! * I've even used an FPE color. >>> I'm very careful with technique & prep! * On cleaned/primed walls, I paint a 2.5' wide column, using 4 roller-loads per 8' height. * After doing these 4 vertical "blocks", I bring my unloaded roller to the top of this column & do 3 REAL LIGHT downward "sweeps"...ceiling-to-floor-motion. * This "lays-off" the paint so all stipple is leaning the same direction, and thin-spots/roller-turns are smoothed out. * Repeat this "column-work" around the room. * Keeping your column width to ~ 2.5' ensures you're getting enough paint on the wall!! * Seriously...I cannot find a roller-line or sheen-variation in my jobs at home! Faron...See MoreKitchen Cabinets and Professional Painters?
Comments (2)You will get a different answer from each painter as to what they think is best. Some even still like to use oil based paints. Personally I would go with a high end 100 percent acrylic paint in a satin finish....like Grahams Ceramic, Pro Classic from SW, BM's Waterborne Satin Impervo or Aura, Muralo Ultra, C2 and Cabinet Coat are all good choices. A high end oil based primer or acrylic primer should also be used. Cabinet painting is not the best place for using cheap paint so I would tell the Behr guys no thanks....See MoreCost to Hire a Professional Painter
Comments (6)My in laws got 2 estimates today for exterior painting. Low cost of living area. One was $3500 and one was $2000. The higher one had a "crew" and had a pretty aggressive sales pitch. The lower one was going to do the work himself. Maybe overhead has something to do with it....See MorePainters started job. 1 bedroom and tiny bathroom, cost $2300
Comments (6)We had our four bedrooms (walls and trim in all rooms plus ceiling in master, total of around 600 sf) painted last year and paid around $3000, which included light prep work (spackle and sand in a few places, but the walls were generally in good shape) and two coats of Benjamin Moore paint (no separate primer necessary). The painter had to do four coats in one room where we had chosen a lighter color, which was a small upcharge ($150, I think?), but he had warned us that might be the case upfront when we decided on the colors so we weren't upset about it. We got three quotes and went with the lowest one, although the others weren't too much higher. ALL of the painters we contacted specified exactly how many coats of what brand of paint and how much prep work they would do in their quotes, so we were able to compare apples to apples. Do you have a written contract specifying number of coats, etc. with your painter? This is in Westchester County NY, where prices are high, so unless you are in an equally expensive market, your costs seem pretty high, especially for shoddy work....See MoreRelated Professionals
