Combined Rose List: where to find roses
Comments (4)I've had the CRL since 1997 and have contributed occasionally by supplying a nursery list or a correction. I am sorry to say that I find the CRL less necessary with the growth of the internet and my latest copy is from 2008. So many nurseries put up their list of roses on the net nowadays that now I look first to the sites of the best and biggest European rose nurseries, with or without a link from HMF. Two big Danish firms, both specialising in old roses, have withdrawn their listings from the CRL because they couldn't handle all the international enquiries. One of them is on the internet, the other is not but still sends roses on a smaller scale....See MoreFor anyone wanting hard to find roses bands... A Reverance for Roses!
Comments (8)Thanks, Cori Ann. I'm always looking for a small nursery to patronize. Having never heard of A REVERENCE FOR ROSES before your heads-up, it will be a real pleasure to add them to my resource list. Please remember to keep your Roses Forum fans posted with photos of your exceptional garden with the abundant varieties of great roses you are growing. You may not know it, but your enthusiasm, knowledge, and energy are both inspiring and contagious to me, and I am sure to many others of us here on the Roses Forum....See MoreHow Do You Purchase / Find your Roses?
Comments (7)My first roses were three Raspberry Cream twirl bareroot/own root roses I got mail order from Northland Rosarium a few years ago, they were so green and healthy and took off like crazy. I also bought Folksinger and Quietness as gallons from heirloom roses, they were tiny green babies when they arrived, but so healthy too. I then planted a Pretty in Pink Eden I got at Lowe's, and a $3 clearanced red knockout, and a $15 potted Chicago peace I found at Home Depot. Oh I can't forget my Francis Meilland rose, that scent mmmmm. Everything has taken off! Gardening is so fun. Last spring I planted David Austin roses Abraham Darby and James Galway that I ordered bareroot, and a 5 pack of "rainbow of roses" bareroot roses that were on sale for like $13 total shipped- those have all taken off too. And I found Eden at Lowe's last June and planted that too, it took off in its first year and looks amazing this spring. Wether they are own root or grafted they thrive in my zone 5 garden and I do zero winter protection. This year while I still love my roses and they're gearing up for their best season yet, I'm now obsessed with daylilies and irises. I have the gardening bug and can't help myself I have three new roses I just planted- summer romance and Dark Desire, and Canyon Road, all about $8-$15 each I got from Lowe's and a grocery store. Oh I forgot I also grow miniature roses. My first one was from the grocery story I got for mother's Day in 2016 I think. I've since added a white one and purple/magenta ones. Wish I knew the variety names they are gorgeous too. So let me count... that's 21 roses in total I think. And I always want more ☺️...See MoreLavender Crush - where are you finding this rose?
Comments (54)Sylvia, is your LC then grown own root? I wonder how it is performing. I assume the feet under the grafted plants I bought were their weaknesses. I owe an update on my diseased throw-a-bucket-of-water-on-folks'-enthusiasm post of a couple years back. After settling in, the bush has been much healthier than initially, and it's a keeper. (I had purchased multiple plants, and all but one grew backwards until they died. The surviving, but erstwhile disease-prone plant now has more established feet under it, and is doing relatively well, though nothing like Ben T's or Ann's spectacular plants!)...See More- 2 years ago
