Door knobs or levers for new bathroom & bedroom doors?
Comments (21)We have a totally traditional house and have levers and they don't look modern at all. Funny story though. When DS was in college he came home one day and was trudging down the hall, as boys that age are apt to do, and caught the strap of his back pack on the lever handle of the linen closet. Because he was moving rather quickly, before he knew what was happening, it spun him around and slammed his face into the wall. When he called to tell me he was going to the eye doctor to replace the glasses that were just broken, he couldn't stop lauging. He's 35 now and we still laugh about it. That being said, I've caught the strap of my purse on DM's door knobs many times, so I think there are pros and cons for each. I did read somewhere that levers were better for the elderly and handicapped. Good luck!...See MoreEmtek or Schlage for interior doors
Comments (3)I have Schlage exterior handles in brushed nickel. After 4 years on one door that is exposed to the elements, the finish is turning gold. I emailed Schlage. They had me email them pictures of the tarnished handle. They sent me a new handle and deadbolt, keyed to match my existing one. Great customer service and lifetime warranty. I'm happy with the Schlage....See MoreEmtek knobs for sale?
Comments (10)All my doorknobs as well as my entrance set are Emtek. I would not recommend them (if you are getting their flat black finish). We’ve been in our new house only 4 months and the knobs have lost their finish (we got flat black) and instead of them being flat, they are all shiny now. In addition to that, the small interior locks are peeling and the paint is coming off. I can’t comment on their other finishes, but the flat black is a definite no go. I only found out after they were installed that they have no finish guarantee for some of their finishes (flat black being one of them)....See MoreOld gold knobs can sometimes turn into satin nickel knobs...saved $$$
Comments (2)Thank you. It wasn't even that difficult, but my fingernails were dark gray until I soaked them. I just couldn't believe they were brushed nickel looking under the gold. I didn't even remember they made brushed nickel anything 40 years ago. They could be older than that. The best part is that I was able to use the original long screws. If I had bought new knobs, the 1" screws that came with the new knobs would have been useless to me. I would have spent more money on new screws. I still have three bathrooms to remodel...every nickel saved gets me more money to spend on the bathrooms....See Morelilnsam
