Where to place lamp?

Hi everyone,
Merry Christmas!

A few weeks ago, I had posted a photo of our home’s entrance room that we were trying to furnish. We got some great ideas on colours and finally put something together that suits our needs. We have an individual on a wheelchair so we wanted to leave the Room open for them to move around (no central table). We got this beautiful plant for the corner, the cute carpet, and accessorized with these cute orange conversation chairs, but we are confused as to how to improve the lighting in the room?! (The ottomans are mobile and are not permanent). We are looking to place either a table lamp or a floor lamp in the room and would really appreciate some ideas on what kind and where to ideally position them in the room that will look good. Also, any ideas on any decoration pieces for the room? Thanks so much!!

I'd add 4 new lamps.

A picture light on the dark wall (add a large framed canvas art)

a floor lamp in the corner

I tall lamp at the end of the sofa and a table lamp on the console in the hall.

I'd up light the plant with some type of light that can placed inside the planter. I'd also select a floor lamp to be placed behind the orange chair and in front of the brown wall.

Thanks, ladies! Les, I really appreciate your suggestions. I'll try some of them in the morning. But the mantle is only 9" wide...and the pheasant needs to rest on both its feet and it's tail tip, so wouldn't stand up on the stool. I did try the lamps further out at first, and they didn't seem right, but this was very quick, so I'll see how that looks. The plate stands require about 5" depth, and the lamp bases are 7", so I can't do much overlapping. The jar is chubby and 5" across, so can't be in front of the stool. I do agree about the leaves and berries, and I can't wait to get some. I'll cut some real bittersweet later, when it's ripening. It's just so yucky here tonight that I didn't want to venture out to get anything, but hope to tomorrow (well, actually today, now!) :-) The clock has been in that spot ever since I had the mantle made, so I'm just used to glancing at it there, but will try that move! The candle is in a small brass holder. I'll check to see what else I might have for it. This is stuff I just had in other areas of the LR, or stashed in the corner cupboard in there, so I didn't even leave the room to look elsewhere. How lazy is that? I'll be happy to take a pic of the heron print when the sun comes up. I'll never be able to capture the beautiful nuances of the outer mat, which is like suede. I have another heron print in there, too: and have them in the river out back, so they have meaning, too. annz, I just bought that pheasant last year locally! It's resin, (you'd never know!) and I had put a bit of Rub n Buff on that too, to highlight the feathers. I bought it at a local store called the Curtain Shop, where I was looking for fabric, and have never seen them anywhere else. They had a hen pheasant, too. Their # is 1-800-888-0663. Call them, and describe it and they will know what you're talking about.

Before I chose a lamp I gave some thought to whether I wanted the light to shine up or down. I decided on up, based on salespeople's opinions that it would produce more light overall (a downward-facing light would illuminate what we were doing with our hands), and I hope that was a good decision. I think the reason the photo appears to show more room above the mirror is that in the photo we are actually looking at 10" of wall plus a 6" beam (same color). The contractor who did the remodel (he just didn't finish) tells me there's an accommodation for hard-wiring a lamp on the back of the mirror wall. So it sounds like we're okay there. Although I have to say I've lived 32 years with a plug-in wall lamp in my downstairs bathroom. No one has ever suggested that we were taking a safety risk. I've never heard of plug-in lamps being a hazard; why should a vanity lamp be any different? Thanks for the input and support. When the lamp is up and the hardware is installed....and the tub is functional, and the shelving is finished....I'll post another picture. Susan

Thanks! The shade was not advertised as original, although the "flower" pattern on the lamp is close to that on the shade and the description noted "jadite" coloring in both the base and shade. I am a sucker for vintage fiberglass shades, especially the two-tiered versions. I needed another lamp and, really, searching through eBay, buying, and receiving doesn't take longer than going to a bunch of stores. And, of course, I ended up with something rather unique... (But now I have to stop on my way home tonight to pick up a rattan end table found on Craigslist to put under it!)

I honestly do not think you should put lights on the house, Landscape lighting would be much more appropriate, and more versatile. Houssan has the right idea. The only other thing that would work here, and not end up looking "misplaced" is soffit lighting like Mer03 posted. You have a very nice garden! it would be beautiful at night and cast some very pretty shadows up onto the wall of the house as well as adding just enough light to really show of the house in the proper way.

You need a floor lamp in the corner behind the armchair, for ambient light and reading. I would also put a table lamp on the side table beside the couch.

If the plant is real it needs light if fake it needs to not be there. You ned lighting between the chairs , one at least the one end table next to the sofa and this is one of my faves for getting light into the center of the space and it provides a spot to put a drink or your phone etc. The other pic is it in my LR

The colors in here a wonderful.

How much light do you need in this room and where? Steal some lamps from other rooms in your home and play around with them in here at different times of day and in different locations to see where and what form of light is most needed.

Will reading happen in this room? If so, I’d love a brass plug-in wall sconce.

Will the person in the wheelchair need to be able to reach and turn the lights on and off?

How large is the table next to the sofa and do you have room to place other things on it if a lamp is there?

Curious, how’s the rug working with the wheelchair?

Thanks everyone.

Kendrah- rug is working very well. It’s a power wheelchair. The lights are all connected to google so using the switches won’t be required. Not much reading- just a place to hang out. The table is about 18inches wide. It can def accommodate something in addition to a table lamp. Any recommendations?

Thanks Patricia- the plant is real. There is a small window in the nook and it gets plenty of natural light without direct light. I’ll look into this lamp.

Beverly thanks for the idea. I’ll look into the plant light!

I was also thinking of maybe fake flowers maybe bright in colour for one of the tables? Can’t think of another piece of decoration as an accent piece.
