I'd steer clear if you're....ahem...of a certain age. Powder makeup can make skin look so dried out and accentuate wrinkles. Tarte has a good tinted moisturizer (the Amazonian Clay one) that has pretty good coverage for this type of product. You can get it at Ulta.

I now use Oil of Olay 7-in-1 moisturizer with a touch of foundation. For light to medium. I use cerave moisturizer under it first. Used to use liquid foundation but just felt too heavy. Haven't found a powder yet that I like.

My niece, 20+ years younger, changes from her powder brush on foundation in winter as it's drying and doesn't lay nicely on her skin. She is a stylist and looking good part of her job requirement. I can't imagine powder on myself.

What I've found works for me at my age (and I don't pretend to know yours) is a tinted moisturizer. Concealer used sparingly where it might be needed - any little red lines (I have developed a couple I really should have the dermatologist zap), under eyes etc., those places where you might want a little more coverage. The tinted moisturizer evens out skin tones and looks more finished than a bare face while still feeling clean and light. Laura Mercier makes a good one but there are plenty of others.

I've been using the L'Oreal version of the mineral makeup and I like it a lot. I've tried switching back to tinted moisturizers, thinking they'd feel light, but the ones I've tried actually feel heavier to me.

I agree that powder is more problematic than liquid. Ive been using Clinique Super Balanced foundation for years. aI apply it with a damp sponge.

I've never ever used foundation in my life so no help here. I used to use powdered eye shadow but gave that up too because it accentuated wrinkles. I am a BOOM girl!

I've used a natural mineral powder makeup and concealer (Larenim) for years now - but I've only rarely used it since 2020 because of mask wearing. I like it because it doesn't cause breakouts like liquid foundations do. I just apply with my fingers, not a brush - and not all over.

I don't even bother putting much over it, it really smooths out my skin's appearance, is lightly tinted, and is completely non-greasy.

Blob of tinted foundation on each cheek and smoosh it around with moisturiser. Doesn't look like make up but makes pale people like me a bit less blotchy and deathly looking.

I have always been concerned that when using powder there is a chance of inhaling the powder. I've never used it, so maybe that's not possible.

I really like "One Heck of a Blot" as a face primer...my make up lasts much longer and my pores get much tighter and my skin much smoother than without it.

The Lancome comes with a sponge, which is what I use to apply it, rather than a brush. It's very pressed, not loose, so there aren't any particles to inhale.

I'm 61 years old and I do like wearing a powder mineral makeup. Applied with a foundation brush, very lightly then build if I need more coverage in a spot or two. I had been switching to a creamy foundation during the winter months until I found out that I can put an oil or moisturizer under the powder foundation then it doesn't look powdery.

I'm going to try the idea of mixing the liquid foundation with some moisturizer though. I find that almost every liquid foundation I try has that cream to powder feel which I do not like at all. I wish they would stop doing that with foundation, whatever happened to a nice creamy foundation that doesn't set up on the skin?

Lately I've been seeing a lot of commercials for Laura Geller's Baked Balance-n-Brighten Color Correcting Foundation. (Normally $36 but currently on sale for $21.60.) And I've watched a few "influencers'" videos on YouTube where they try that foundation, and they have all raved about it. Makes me very tempted to try it, especially since you just choose a "range" - e.g., fair, light, medium, etc. - rather than a specific color. It's a powder foundation that is baked, so it's hard, not a loose powder. And, yes, I agree with what some others have said about making sure you have used a good moisturizer first. Even with liquid foundation, if your skin is really dry, it's not going to look good.

A liquid foundation that's highly rated for "women of a certain age" is Georgio Armani's Luminous Silk. It's $69 for a one-ounce (30ml) bottle, or $45 for a 0.6 ounce (18ml) bottle.

When I do wear make up I only use water based liquid. I use a light touch and apply it with a foundation brush. I'm just evening out my skin tone. Hate the embalmed flawless look. I really like Covergirl TruBlend. It's oil free and sunscreen free. Goes on sheer. I'm afraid it will be discontinued because I am seeing the price fluctuating. In the summer I've been using now discontinued ELF BB Creme for a little sun protection since I am exposed the sun and the wind so much. I don't know what I will find to replace it. I still have a few tubes. All the others I've tried turn orange. I stay away from the shimmery, brightening , descriptions for aging skin. Having done stage makeup, I know how any highlights in makeup actually deepen the effect of wrinkles. I never understood why beauty products push those on older women.

Lindsay, I was going to write the same thing about the Laura Geller product. I am tempted to try it, so maybe after Christmas I might visit a makeup counter and have them apply it or since it’s on sale, just try it. I too watched some videos and it does appear to be more of a light-medium coverage unless you apply more.

I’ve been using Revision Intellishade tinted moisturizer for years and only wear any true foundation for special occasions or dabbing on when I need a more polished look. Intellishade also has spf45 so i can use it without worrying about sunscreen.

Funny thing, Carol, the mineral products don’t work for me at all and never have. I find them more comdogenic and icky on my skin than foundation as a general rule. I’ve pretty much used Bobbi Brown serum-based brightening foundation if needed for a long time.

Yes, OutsidePlaying, it's really, really tempting to try the Laura Geller stuff. I still have some of the Bare Minerals loose powder foundation from years ago. I was never really happy with it. But the Laura Geller baked powder foundation just looks so easy to apply, and I like that you don't have to figure out a specific shade - just your range (e.g., light, medium, etc.). I don't need more than medium coverage, and I noticed that in all of the videos I watched of people trying it, they all seemed to comment that it felt so light/natural on their skin.

At 76 I still get oily skin plus have old acne scars. I use Revlon Colorstay long wearing foundation in Buff.

I joined the crowd! Ordered the same as Lindsey and katlan. Fingers crossed that it works.

To clarify, I didn't order the same blush as katlan. She ordered the "5 Multi Finish Blush Palette" but I ordered the "Laura's Bakery Eyeshadow Quad and Blush Kit (2PC)" with the Pink Buttercream blush and whatever the four eyeshadow colors are. I probably won't use those eyeshadows, but I can give that palette to our Pilates instructor (she's a good friend). I do have a Laura Geller eye shadow palette (well, I actually have two of the same one) called "20 Shades of Celebration" that I got quite a few years ago, and there are colors in it/them that I like. Also, I got a different shade of the Baked Balance-n-Brighten foundation - I ordered Light.

Came back to say I ordered the LG Baked Bakance and Brighten foundation plus the set of 2 kabuki brushes and a hydrating primer. I kept thinking I have tried an LG primer in the past and didn’t like it but these sounded like different formulations. Then this morning I found this L’oreal I had forgotten in a drawer so I tried it today. It is really pretty good under my tinted moisturizer and was inexpensive. I’ll see how it looks at the end of the day. Can you tell I don’t usually spend a lot of effort on my makeup?
