I'd leave the cabinets alone and just paint the walls.

@tlynn1960, I forgot to mention that we plan on changing the floor since the sellers had too many differenty types of flooring here. We like the floors in the bedroom, so ultimately they'd be a type of greige wood-look vinyl.

You may need to take a step back and be sure you are working on an overall palette if it’s an open plan.

So, you’d need to get a box of proposed flooring and lay it next to cabs. In case it’s a no- go to use it with existing wood tone, which seems like, as “ greige” usually not so great with gold- orange wood tones. But, hard to say since “ greige” may be name of a whole array of versions. Plus read up on what is required to get an acceptable paint job, vs would current wood work if lighting better, vs does it actually read very golden and you want your adjacent rooms to be gray and purple- not a good mix.

I’d sample Violet Pearl from Benjamin Moore to see if it’s complementary to your flooring and color choices.

If you really insist on painting cabinets I would go for a sage green that blends with wall color and is either a little darker or lighter. Should go with floor as well.

is there more or is this all you are talking about? Because for the age of the cabinets and lack of drawers/ partial overlay look [dated] I would seriously price out all new. . You could do Ikea or RTA .......a 9 foot run ??? and short stove end......not really all that costly for a better return on your expenses ........unless there is more not shown. I'd want to go to the ceiling as well......it looks a lot better and no soffit makes it easy.

go to the ceiling/ search out all the beautiful veneers/ full overlay doors for a more coordinated/ more efficient small space. Long term this is the better option...

Agree fully with HF on the cabinets. The look of your cabinets will remain dated even if you paint them given the ornate doors and partial overlay. in the kitchen would look more complete if the cabinets went to the ceiling. You can even keep a wood tone and still achieve a modern look. I would recommend rethinking those grayish floors. Gray as a wood tone I hope will die a fast death this coming year. It's been around since at least 2015 when I started seeing it in cheap apartment reno's. Even if it's a high-quality hardwood it still screams builder grade to me. Don't get me wrong, gray is a very lovely color, but not as a wood tone. The bleached or rotting wood look is way overdone IMO and hopefully on its way out.

A few questions: Will you be painting them yourself or having a professional paint them? Will you be keeping the backsplash behind the range? I'd be sure to pick out your flooring first before you settle on a cabinet color. I have white cabinets and they are not high maintenance at all. Not saying that you should go with white, but I don't think it is a good reason to rule them out. Do you want this kitchen to read dark and moody or fresh and bright? Do you have any inspiration pics that you like?

Waht are the floors next to the kitchen those are what you put in the kitchen not some random bedroom floor never seen . IMO a waste of effort and money to change those cabinets to apinted and BTW no color has less work to care for they all need the same cleaning all the time. If the plan is too have these by a pro then stop right now it will cost you almost as much as getting new from Ikea . I think whay you have works pretty well together . The color scheme for the rest of the house would not be my choice but if you love those colors then leave this alone .

The counters and terrible lighting are a much bigger problem in that kitchen than anything else. Wood brings in the warmth that you need. Gray is dead, so don't be hopping on that train. It's already crashed.

@kendrah We were possibly going to paint or stain them ourselves. My fiance tells me he'd prefer if we stain it. We would not keep the backsplash, either. I feel like the living room and dining room will be grey with a hint of drama (since we will have our fireplace surround extended to the ceiling... so I'm fine with the kitchen being kinda simple, but not old feeling.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting The sellers of this house have different types of flooring in nearly every room. The one pictured is a linoleum floor, which we definitely don't want to keep.

I would do something dark like urbane bronze by sherwin williams

It's one of those nice inbetween colors not quite black, brown, or grey
