Distance between island and slider

Long story short, architect miscalculated. Now that the island is in place, the distance between the island and the slider doors is only 44 inches, not 49 as shown in the attached drawing.
We can still move the island a few inches in any direction, so the suggestion is to shorten the distance between island and range to 40 or even 38 so we get some extra space to the slider. Visually, I think this will make the kitchen look a little spacious and make any entry to the house from the slider look a little more comfortable. (I should add that the design of the island has changed to make the seating at the corners.)
But the temporary apartment I'm staying in has a 42 inch gap between the two sides of the galley and I quite like it. Anything less feels more cramped.
What do you guys think? Pre remodel there was no island and plenty of space to walk around so I'm definitely biased towards having enough space in the work area.
