Paint color suggestions for small open living and dining room
Comments (7)A big vote for a basic gray to be used throughout the whole area -- THEN add your orange accents in fabrics, artworks, rugs etc. In time -- and perhaps according to the seasons -- you MIGHT want to switch accent colors -- and this way -- it is easier to do .... Also -- perhaps consider waiting until you can find an inspiration piece -- like an area rug or artwork -- and THEN match the color and shade of gray -- MUCH easier to do in that order! :) For example check out BM Willowcreek #1468 -- a medium (but still fairly light warm gray) .... Hope you don't mind some thoughts!...See Moretrying to avoid painting two ceilings that meet.
Comments (5)Even if you knew the brand and exact paint, touching up a ceiling after this much time has passed never works out. It always shows. Even touching up a ceiling a week after painting it is difficult because usually kitchen ceilings are soaked in natural light from windows...all that light coming in really makes touching up difficult. You probably will need to paint the whole thing....See MoreTotal gut, hardwood in living/dining, colored tile in kitchen?
Comments (14)Oh, those are nice vinyl mats, april! Very nice. Are they cushioned? And what a great idea to tile under your cabinets. The unforgiving nature of tile sneaks up on you. I remember my MIL telling me it was a hard floor when we were doing our kitchen over twelve years and I scoffed. How hard can it be, I thought. She suggested vinyl. OMG. Vinyl! I turned up my nose at that. And also, I kept thinking of off-gasing. Well, I got my tile floor and then had to deal with the godforsaken grout. Thankfully, it's one of those tiles with a pattern that hides the dirt well. But the grout! I asked about sealing it when we did the floor but the contractor said it didn't make much difference. Besides, he said, you just clean it. And he's right. I do. On my hands and knees with a toothbrush. After a couple of years, I'd notice that I wasn't spending much time in the kitchen. Washing the pots and pans wasn't a 15-minute chore anymore. I'd give up after five mins or so. Finally dawned on me that I couldn't stand to stand in there for very long. Everything hurts. (We got a gel cushion mat for the sink area. I wish it covered the whole floor.) Never again. I'd rather have a water-stained hardwood floor in there than tile. If the wood got too bad, I'd paint it with marine-grade paint. Or I'd look into cork, linoleum and vinyl a bit more. Cork wasn't widely available back then. I can handle tile in bathrooms but not in the kitchen where I must be on my feet for more than a few minutes....See MoreAny beige paint suggestions for my living/dining/kitchen space?
Comments (8)Again thank you all for the suggestions. I am now leaning toward a warm white vs. a beige! Out of 12 samples (mostly beiges), I've narrowed it down to 4 (1 off-white, 3 beiges), now just trying to figure out which looks best with the kitchen backsplash. (I think they all look fine with the countertop, various woods, & living room, so it's coming down to the kitchen.) If anyone would like to share their opinions on the following choices, I'd appreciate any input: SW Creamy SW Canvas Tan BM Gentle Cream BM Dulce de Leche On the countertop Earlier in the living room, with other samples. SW Creamy is at the top. BM Gentle Cream is on the bottom. Earlier in the living room, with other samples. BM Dulce de Leche is at the top. SW Canvas Tan is 3rd from the top. I've discovered it is very hard to capture beige on camera! Hopefully you can see the subtle differences in these photos....See MoreRelated Professionals
