Read the Bermuda bible and follow by seasons. I made mistake spraying weeds in the summer before but I guess you live and learn. One more thing do your yard a great service and get a soil test.i see people with high ph and putting down lime.thats a killer. I see people with low phos ,potassium, just putting nitrogen on there yard instead of a balanced fertilzer like 13-13-13. My neighbor had a light green colored yard.one day he ask me what I was putting on my yard.i told him a balanced fertilzer. So I put a one foot square spread of 13 -13 - 13 on his yard and his grass turned bright green and grew great. He listen to me after that and had soil tested low phos, potassium and they told him to use a balanced fertilzer 19-19-19 at 5 lbs per 1000 sq ft.now his whole yard is green and he is a happy camper. Soil test will tell you a lot of good info. Good luck. Tom...See Morenew home gift ideas

If you want it by the truckload, there's usually "aggregate" places where you can order a truckload of top soil. Glover in Hilo may sell topsoil by the truckload, they have cinders at least. We build raised bed gardens from cinder blocks. About three layers high, then we put down a layer of weed mat to keep any tree roots from coming in from below. Then pile in whatever soil we can get. I'll usually let all the weeds sprout up and then yank them out before they seed. But you can skip this part if you don't mind weeding for the first year or so of your garden. Then the top 10" of soil, especially the top 4" are the best soil I can get. There's usually amendments of oyster shell worked into at least the top ten inches as well as compost and rabbit manure since we have that. Rabbit manure is an excellent fertilizer, you can put it directly on your plants without the need for composting as you'd have to do for chicken manure. For the cinder blocks, we set them so we can reach into the middle of the garden. How long doesn't really matter, but being able to reach the center from the sides is pretty important, IMHO....See MoreNew home owner, old ugly house.

My non-professional opinion is that this area is the corner of your frame and could use enhancement or obscuring. The right planting could edit the arbor and building behind it right out of the picture. Agree with Floral's impression as it was mine too. I can see going in a more modern, Japanese direction with the landscaping. (Yard's preference in colors may be a Florida POV. Where I am, Tudor and Japanese dark wood/light mortar/stone combinations seem tasteful, not garish at all.) My first step would be changing the unnatural looking circle of stones around the birch (?) tree in front. Yard made it an oval, and I think obscured the rocks with a groundcover or removed them....See MoreRelated Professionals
