How can we handle 3' space to the wall behind freestanding range
Comments (4)It will not look silly if you make it look intentional. I like the idea of a bottle shelf. Rather than bumping the entire wall out, consider an interesting tile or mosaic backsplash design at the current wall plane, then build the rest of the wall out around it so that it is framing your design. You could then use the bottom edge of the frame as a shelf for bottles, spices, etc. I watched Christopher Lowell on Discovery Channel for several years, and one of the major lessons I took away from there was that if you could not change something you really disliked, rather than masking it, you should change your decorating to make it look like it was always supposed to look that way. I think this problem you have will present an opportunity for creativity that will ultimately look better than your original plans!...See MoreHow can a wall mount range be installed on a half wall?
Comments (15)Thank you for the response. For reference, here is the hood we have: https://www.whirlpool.com/kitchen/cooking/hoods/canopy/p.WVW53UC0FS.html It will be vented outside through the roof. is the back of the vent stack covered with steel too? I was told the back is open due to it being on a wall. Are all 4 aidss covered in steel? If so, then I guess it wouldn't be so much of an issue....See MoreUnique Dining Room: How to Finish out lighting/wall decor/color
Comments (45)Ah, gotcha. I misunderstood. I still do like those rooms and would consider them inspirational, at least partly. I am working around a few constraints for the room so maybe that accounts for the differences? - I need to find a chandelier that has a single round canopy, due to the way our ceiling is. In searching for a chandelier, it's been hard to find something that I think works with the room and has a single round canopy. - I really like the paned mirror in the first inspo room, but I'm looking to put one of those in the foyer. - I would like to find an affordable table that looks like the first inspo pic. I'm searching a local store's inventory for the table and chairs to find something we could potentially really get (and afford) instead of incorporating a picture of the *perfect* table that I don't know the make/price of. - I would also like to use parsons chairs for all of the seats, but I already have two and doubt I'd be able to match them easily to another 6. I think a contrasting chair type would be a better fit because of that. In the second insp pic I like how the room is generally neutral but has subtle color to it. I like the lantern light fixtures in that room but realize they won't work for my space. I also like the artwork in the room and I could use something like in my room in place of the circular mirrors. For my room, I knew I wanted to find a rug with a neutral base that had a few bits of accent color. The accent colors in the rug shown in the mock-up might be more vivid than I pictured in my mind, but I think they work. I also like the idea of an oriental rug that's not so traditional. I hope that helps explain?!? Maybe those rooms aren't exact inspirations. I'm still on the lookout for room designs to help guide me. My unusual dining room doesn't make it easy to compare online dining rooms to my own....See MoreHow should I incorporate a backsplash on this range/window wall?
Comments (23)I like glossy. Just personal preference. It feels lighter and cleaner to me. I think texture is great on a simple shape--square or subway. If you're doing a more complex shape, then I would go with a flat tile. I think "let one thing be the star" applies to the components of each element, just as it does to the overall design. This is my absolute favorite textured tile. Easy to find in a short or elongated subway. I wanted our backsplash to be their square version, but couldn't sell DH on any of it. And my second-favorite textured tile, same maker. It's available in the same gentle wave as the Genesi, or in the texture pictured below....See MoreRelated Professionals
