Door frame style for Conmore Doors

We have ordered the 5 panel shaker style Conmore doors, the first picture. Our house will be transitional style. What type trim do you like? See the attached pictures. The picture with the thin board on top (second picture) is what our builder recommends. I think less might be more, like the third picture.

Given your base molding, I'd go even less for the top of the door. Picture framing it. So wider side and thinner top with no end overlap. Your doors are unadorned rails and stiles.

In my experience, it is quite difficult to impossible to have everything pre-machined by the lumberyard (especially the hinge mortises, which should "hit" within less than 1/32" to fit properly), and expect it to come-out right and ready to "throw into the hole". My advice would be to order the jamb stock, fit it in, and do the lockset drilling and hinge mortising in-place to assure accuracy. Such field prep and hanging might be done by a very experienced and capable homeowner; otherwise you may wish to call on a pro. Swapping out white slab doors for new contemporary style doors

After talking to several realtors around my area, decided to cancel my orders and go with basically home improvement store items. I will be order $200 translucent door slabs and much cheaper Baldwin $40-$150 lock sets. Why? Buyers at my home's price range really could care less about quality doors and hardware. I guess $2 million homes are not looked upon like I thought they would be now a days. Why spend when you don't need to? Anyways, I was under a different mindset then what is reality in terms of doors and lock sets. People really do not care and not a important selling point at all. New is new and that about it!

Replacing sliding doors with french style doors

Doors designed for stick built houses are about 2" thicker than mobile home doors. I have installed house doors in mobile homes, but the frames will be wider than the walls by about 2". And new rough framing for the door has to be built. Will be quite expensive.

Can you combine a metal door frame with a solid core wood door?

The door comes with standard butt hinges or Soss style concealed hinges, like shown above which is what I did. We painted the jamb area the same finish at the door, and the wall is flat finish...you do have to be careful about smudges but we don't touch the walls going through the doors so much. Smudging is the only regular downside I can think of. No cracking or anything in our case. (I do have some cracking around a more conventional kerfed wood jamb. And I suppose the specificity and relative permanence could be a down side. No just popping off trim to change or modify something.

Agree with very simple, and a simple baseboard. A little insane what they're showing in that first photo!! :)

The last photo the doors are simple so should the trim and baseboards be simple.I agree even just the size of the molding for the top of the door no overhang at all

@MarkBischak - we are building a new house. I will be “decorating “ in a transitional style, Traditional and contemporary mix.

Perhaps I don’t understand your question.

A door selection that was less 'cottage like" instead of transitional might have been a better choice for the door style.

These doors lean more transitional to contemporary or modern.

What trim will be used for your windows? What type of baseboard are you planning to use? Any other wood work in the home? Kitchen and Bath Cabinet stile? Crown moullding? Doors and door trim do not get selected in a vacuum, it all ties together.

@millworkman answered the question. The trim in your new home should all be the same. Hence, the door selection should work with the trim and vice versa.

The doors will hopefully be there for a long time…so leaning more traditional… is the safest choice…also getting the best quality you can afford is a good investment..adding that solid wood is worth the cost …over time..and holds up better for re-sale and longevity and wear..
