Annoyances of FBM…

last year

I was interested in this desk…

So I asked seller for dimensions (why doesn’t everyone just list dimensions in the first place??). Here’s what she sent:

Does that seem right to anyone? Maybe it’s a child’s desk? But the listing doesn’t indicate that.

That seems super low even for a child's desk... and doesn't seem right based on the size in the image relative to other furniture nearby.

I like it a lot but if the dimensions are accurate, it would be too low for me even as a side table.

Looking at other objects in the picture for comparison, I think the height measurement may be a typo. Perhaps ask for clarification?

Both the "length" and height are 20.8. If that were true, the end shot should be a perfect square, but it's taller than it is wide.

FWIW, Sister has a similar spinet desk. I happen to be at her house and measured hers. It is 32” high to the top when closed. It is 26” to the writing surface when opened.

I actually want to use it as an end table between two chairs. I figured if it were the usual 30" or so, I could cut the legs (ssh, don't look if you are opposed to that sort of thing). But I am pressed for time as I am going out of town so I doubt I'll get to the bottom of the measurement mystery before I go.

Looking at the other furniture (like the chair) there is no way the desk is 20" tall. I bet it's 30".

I did question the measurements, have not heard back. I would like something wider than 30" too so if that measurement is right, it's not going to work either. I love the look of it, though.

Sueb, are you going to be happy with the proportions of the legs if you cut several inches off?

Something seems off. But at least you got a response! In the first pic the top appears almost square but not in the second. Look at the placement of thedesk feet. I'm betting those parquet squares on the floor are 6" sq. so use that as a guide.

Google tells me end tables are from 20" -24" tall. It looked like a cool end table to me,.

Can't tell you how many times I've requested dimensions .... it looks like it could work

She got back to me … yes, of course the height is 30”. But I am getting on a plane in a few hours so someone else will have to buy it!

You could Venmo a deposit to hold it

Also, no offense but I am not sure I trust these measurements. Are you telling me she actually, for some reason measured it with a tape or ruler and then converted it to decimal (20.8")?

    That would be 1' 8" and 51/64ths.

    That's a heck of a ruler.

HA! mtn, I thought the same thing. I suspect it is someone who thinks 1/8th is expressed 0.8. Like the people who think that 1.5 lbs of meat is 1 lb 5 oz instead of 1 lb 8 oz.

  • last year

Or maybe, even worse, that 20.8 = 20'8"

FWIW, I have a couple of rulers that show 10ths of an inch - used for manufacturing purposes...

Maybe she was in a hurry the first time, hit the wrong button or looked at her notes wrong.

  • last year

But she used the decimal construct three times

I found a glass and metal table that would be perfect for my plants by my window. The price was okay. She did not post measurements, but I asked for them. I did not notice that Faceyuck posted a table 200 miles away?????

I have it set for 10 miles???? Total waste of time, I am about to just quit looking at Marketplace. Between all the ads and everything else, they are usless.
