Backsplash Dilemma

I had a post earlier regarding my kitchen cabinets and from the great answers I got the idea to refinish my cabinets in the same stain. Now my dilemma is what colour/material should the ugly brown backsplash be replaced with? As you can see by the photos, the walls are a very light bluish grey (not my original choice). The second photo is looking the opposite way into the living room. I'm trying to keep costs down. Thanks for any helpful advise.

I kinda like what you currently have. It's hard to see it very well from the pics but it looks like it coordinates nicely with the cabinets and the counter.

white or cream, whichever better matches your stone. will lighten the whole space!

Hi All! So I gave up on the large format and found a glass subway that wasn’t too plain yet not too busy and I am supremely happy with how it turned out w the Taj Mahal! I’m not one to be too risky w pattern and design as I want it to be timeless so this works perfect for me. Near the sink, I'd tile the short wall in the corner as well, and the area behind the sink if you're adding a raised wall. For the stove area, I would tile to the bottom of the hood vent or the bottom of the shelves, depending on where those are placed. If you're not going all the way to the ceiling I would not go as high as the pantry. Do you have room to add a narrow cabinet to the left of the sink? Or even a 6" filler piece? The sink looks awkward to use so far into the corner.

This is so interesting. I’ve never seen anyone attach a 4” bs to a tall cabinet. And your wet zone seems to be on the island. I hope it comes off easily. If you end up needing to repair it, your cabinet company can probably provide you with touch-up paint if you ask. My least favorite look is tile above a 4” splash. It’s the belt and suspenders look. But people do it. Do a Google search and see if you like it.

IMO the wrong type of schluter was used and honestly those accent walls behind ranges are a really dated look . So maybe a blessing . Rip it out do the same tile all across that wall and forget that weird square of accent tile

If you don't like the blue or green Paul suggested, look for something that is one of the colors in your counters. Bring home some samples (or order online) until you find the right one.

Your countertop is a pinkish color. you may want to avoid a tile that is creamy and has yellow in it. Agree you need to bring home tile samples and coordinate with the counters.

I would pull one of the warm grays or taupes from your granite to modernize your space. Replace the backsplash with a solid color.

I am in a minority…while I do like the cream, also like the blue and would like a much softer sage as well.

It’s super important to tap into one of the colors in your countertop and not introduce anything new to the palette. I would eye up the soft warm gray/taupe color for sure. Also avoid glass subway tile as I will be too modern. Stick with porcelain and a more traditional 3x6 size ☺️

I think a nice glass tile in a color from the granite with matching grout . Please try to eliminate some of the counter clutter and change those light bulbs to LED 4000K and what is that on the hood fan chimney.

We might recommend taking a color from the countertops. Perhaps a white or cream color. It might match the cabinets really well too.

A beige, creamy white, or taupe tile might work really well with your current countertop and cabinet color. Below are some images with tiles that could work for you. We might recommend getting samples and trying them out in your lighting before making any big moves.
