akchi-town: Thanks for the note. Re-reading my post, I did not express myself clearly. "RR" was supposed to mean "right rear" (or corner-offset). I have indeed looked at Handcrafted Metals. In fact, I realized after I posted that I should have referenced them. I have not actually asked them for a quote, but the prices for their stock and custom sinks are still beyond what I was comfortably willing to spend. By not contacting them, I think I was sorta avoiding temptation, if you know what I mean! ;-) I think I will at least get a price from them, though. I have no real restrictions in size. I had originally been looking for a very small sink (21") to allow me to use a small cab, so that I could have room in my layout for other things. GW helped me realize I would be better to use a full-size sink cab (36") and eliminate a separate cab for recycling. Hence my need for a corner-offset drain, so I can squeeze recycling under the sink. I think my ideal size would be about 24 to 26". Funny, it seems to me that there aren't a lot of sinks in this range -- they seem to jump from 22 to 30". (Plenty of exceptions, of course.) Another desideratum that I didn't list in the first post was that I would prefer a shallower bowl, about 8" max. I like everything about the Elkay except two: I'd prefer copper, and I'd like what Franke calls an "integral ledge" to hold a grid or cutting board at an elevated height. My sister has that feature, and I love it. There is an interplay with size here: one thought is to abandon the integral ledge, and get a wider sink instead. Then I could put a draining rack off to one side in the sink to serve the same purpose. But this solution wouldn't be my first choice.

We have a center drain with an 18" trash and recycling setup underneath it. Initially thought we would need a side rear drain, but it worked! What makes it feasible is the lack of a disposal, so if you don't plan to have one, you might be able to pull it off. It really depends on whether you can fit all of the rest of your under-sink gear on one side of the sink (minus a bit in the middle for plumbing). We don't have any of those, so not sure how much space they take. If you're doing two half-depth bins side by side (on both sides of the sink) it might also be different--ours are two front-to-back so they take up 100% of the space on one side but nothing on the other.

Am I overthinking this? I thought the plumbing all has to be on the same side. If the water to the dishwasher and the the dishwasher draining water has to cross over to the other side, won't they be in the way of the trash pullout?

After a year or so of using a large single bowl sink with a bottom grid, an easy, almost effortless way to clean the grid and the sink finally dawned on me. Stopper the sink, turn the grid upside down, slosh in about a tablespoon of powdered dishwasher detergent. (I have used both powder Finish & powder Cascade; both work equally good.). Add about an inch/ inch & a half of hot water and leave to soak for 15 minutes or so. The dishwasher detergent also gets rid of water spots so use that water & a microfiber dish cloth to clean the sides of the sink. I had been using Bar Keeper's Friend to clean the sink with but I hate how it smells and it is difficult to rinse all of the residue out of the sink. And the dish cloth stinks of Bar Keeper's Friend. So I was super happy to find a way to avoid using it.
