Condensing-type boilers and hot water heaters operate at much higher efficiencies than their non-condensing brethren. If your boiler is 30 years old and your hot water heater is 15 years old, now is a good time to consider replacing them. Given the incredibly high electric utility rates on the Cape, you'll be well served to replace an electric hot water heater with a gas one. Before you do anything, check the requirements of the MassSave Program to see what rebates you may be eligible for and to ensure your contractor is a MassSave qualified contractor.
