An annual repot is best but it can be stretched out to every other year if pressed. I'd root prune at the same time unless you are increasing the pot size.

Standard commercial potting mixes tend to be excessively moisture retentive. That impacts how much oxygen is reaching the roots and how freely you are able to water. Both play a major role in how well your plants respond to their growing conditions.

Finally, plants grown in containers have no access to any nutrients unless supplied by the grower. So they need fertilizing much more often than just once a year. Typically weekly during the growing season or certainly after every good thorough watering. Another reason why you should be looking for a better quality, fast draining potting soil....like the 5-1-1 or gritty mix.

Based on the syngonium and what looks like a <i>Ficus salicaria (aka nerifolia), it looks like you water, then allow the water to remain in the tub until it is absorbed or evaporated, which makes it seem at first glance the issue is related to over-watering and/or a high level of dissolved solids in the soil/ soil solution. The high level of dissolved solids makes the plant's water and nutrient uptake increasingly difficult as the concentration builds. Watering in this manner also ensures that the ratio of essential nutrients becomes badly skewed, quickly, if you aren't using a fertilizer with an NPK ratio which closely mimics the ratio at which the plant actually uses the nutrients. This causes antagonistic deficiencies which occur when an excess of one nutrient limits uptake of one or more other nutrients.

"Miracle-Gro" is a brand, and doesn't provide enough information about what product you're using. Once per year is nowhere enough in terms of nutritional supplementation. If you're watering correctly, so you're soaking the entire soil column and at least 20% of the water you used exits the drain hole, you should be fertilizing about every 3rd or 4th time you water in summer, and every 4th or 5th time you water in the cooler/ darker months of fall, winter, and early spring.

Whether or not you repotted, which includes bare-rooting, root pruning, and a change of soil, after 3 years you're certainly dealing with the limitations imposed by root congestion, which can sap 100% of your plant's ability to grow and defend itself against diseases and insect herbivory. Root congestion also causes loss of older foliage and wreaks havoc on your plant's level of vitality (health), not to mention it's negative impact on eye appeal.

They've been indoors about a month now. I haven't watered them since I brought them in and the soil is still moist. Considering the low indoor humidity, I find this amazing. The croton has dropped all but about 6 leaves, but the peace lily looks better.
