Being that the diluted vinegar is very weak, I think the intent is to wait until the final rinse to dispense it so that it can effectively remove the scant detergent in the final rinse water. Otherwise, because the first rinse still has a lot of detergent dissolved in it, the diluted vinegar gets spent before it can act on the detergent still on the fabric. (The max line on all the compartments is equal to 1/2 cup of liquid.) In the Samsung, when the "Extra Rinse" option is selected, the machine does not dispense what is in the softener section until the 3rd and last rinse. What happens is that the during the 1st and 2nd rinses, only the bleach dispenser section gets flooded with water (all other compartments left dry). And then finally at the start of the 3rd rinse, the machine dispenses what's in the softener compartment, followed by a flooding of all the other compartments (I think to do a final purging/cleaning of laundry products left in the other compartments).

tecnopolis, it is true that the European washers have the option to do a profile wash and reach temperatures close to the boiling point of water. But, not nearly all fabrics can be washed on that cycle. Even at lower temperatures LCB is not added to kill bacteria. There are environmental and health concerns about the use of chlorine bleach. In Germany, ozone is used to treat drinking water instead of chlorine bleach. Ozone is as effective in killing germs and any traces of it can easily be removed by using UV light that splits the ozone and produces oxygen. Drinking water produced like this tastes and smells much better than water treated with chlorine bleach. The purity requirements for tab water in Germany are stricter than the requirements for bottled water since it has to be safe even if consumed in large amounts. There is also no addition of fluorides in Germany. If you drink lots of water you may get much more flouride than recommended. If you look it up you'll find that that one is a controversial subject even in the US. Don't just assume that everything the government allows or does is also save for your health or the environment!

Depending on which model of the W1 you purchased, I would also highly recommend you try washing your clothes first in the 'Rinse & Spin' cycle. I'm not sure which washing machine you had prior, but I wish someone had told me this when I purchased my W1. The amount of detergent build-up in clothes from the previous washer took a long time to remove until I could properly sit down and adjust TwinDos the way Luna described. Without doing this, I was just adding to detergent build-up -- These machines clean really well and easily pull detergent build-up out. I'm operating on soft water and finally settled on #1-20ml/#2-17ml, this is after much testing with new clothes and ensuring the machine went through a clean machine cycle first to ensure there wasn't any soap residue in the drum.

First: Be sure to turn the 'Maximum Rinse Level' in the programmable settings. This will improve rinsing quite a bit. It explains how to do this later on in the manual. Second: Since you have hard water, I highly recommend using a more powerful detergent that will be able to cope with your water hardness. Be sure you aren't using a 'detergent' that may cause buildup (detergent or mineral) and ruin the machine you just purchased. As dadoes stated, STPP is a great way to help combat this. Third: I highly recommend a detergent containing enzymes. My personal recommendations would be either Tide Advanced Oxi (Costco) or Persil Oxi. Both can deal with hard water, clean really well, and can be dosed at a lower quantity without too many issues. The Persil does not have as strong of a scent compared to the Tide.
