Green glass lamp shade

I've recently purchased the Vintner Chandelier from Currey and Company. It's made from recycled green glass. Now I'm concerned it will produce a green cast on my dinner companions and our food. Does anyone know how I can minimize this concern? Or is it even a real concern? Would the color light bulb matter? (USA, must be LED.) The light is still mostly in it's original packing, and I'm wondering if I should return it. Thanks for any help!

I did keep the light, and am very happy that I did so! I'm going to post photos, but I'm clearly moving in and not very organized about it, so please ignore that! It will likely be months, but I will also post the room after it's painted and furnished.

BeverlyFLADeziner you're right! It is an accent light. It doesn't give off much light. But FYI to anyone considering the light, it does need a cooler lightbulb than you would normally use in a chandelier. The warmer bulbs, IMO, turns the lamp a gaudy goldish-green color. But, taste is subjective!

Maybe you can inquire with their customer service? Makes me think of Tiffany lamps and stained glass lighting where the bulb just accentuates the glass but not the room. Pretty chandelier!!

Oh my goodness, I love this light. I saw it on IG a while back, and just went over to grab some photos of it in rooms to show you (and others just for fun).

Handel overlay lamp shade with dull glass- any fixes?

I have seen many Handel metal overlays (Teroca) and none of the ones I have seen have this condition. Inside of the lamp shade some of the glass panels are shiny and some are dull. There are run marks where the dull ends and the shiny glass starts. The glass artist I contacted said that the glass was either meant to be this way or it was over fired . I was thinking that perhaps this shade was involved in a fire. Although there are painted parts on this lamp which are fine and original the way Handel used to get the paint to adhere to the glass was by baking the shade after it was painted. So I would expect them to be fine even if the lamp was involved in a fire. This is the only thing that makes any sense to me. So far I have tried ammonia, acetone, paint thinner (I certainly did... on a small area on the inside of the shade on a panel which faces the wall), white polishing compound (which gave the shade a very slight sheen) and I have ordered some MAAS metal polish...thank you for the link triciae. Nothing removed the dullness so I really don't feel like it is dirt. But what do I really know. My nana was a teenager when this lamp was made and my mother wasn't even born. LOL. After all is said and done we still enjoy this beautiful lamp every night. It looks fine when turned off and looks stunning turned on. I am happy to have it. I may just have to get over the dullness.

In my opinion, the base of the shade is too narrow in diameter. If you want it more streamlined, I would avoid the scalloped edging and go for a more tailored shade. I would probably have the shade a couple of inches longer as well. I would use a style similar to the one at this link (no pleats, ruffles, etc) except I would get one that is plain rather than embellished with embroidery and make sure the color works with your lamp).shade style example

Gorgeous light! I’m looking at light coming from my lamps with primarily gold & red colors - the color in glass is illuminated but they don’t cast colored shadows or make items near them turn gold or red. I agree with @jackowskib

jackowskib I did look at the Currey and Company website, but the correct person to contact was confusing, and I don't have a lot of time before I would have to have it returned. The website just says chandelier bulbs at 2700, but that doesn't help me to know if a green light is cast.

Jilly, those photos are very helpful. They don't seem to be casting green, at all. And, I'll get on IG to see if any of these people would have any information on how the light appeared.

KW PNW Z8 I've been doing some research, and apparently different color glass allows different amounts and types of light through, and other absorb the light. Maybe, though, I'm just making a problem where there is none. It's a statement light, and once it's installed its mine, so I'm trying to get information prior to installation.

Different K light bulbs would not neutralize the green cast. Use green in decor as proposed above.

Add pink to the decor for warmth. Pink is the opposite of green and the light bouncing from it would neutralize some of the green.

The eye adjusts quickly in context and you will never notice the green cast after a few minutes. You love the chandelier, it's beautiful, so go for it.

Thank you tracefloyd! I've decided to keep it. I'll post picture when it's up, but it will likely be alone in the room. I can decorate however I like, because the room is currently empty except for 4 dining chairs!

I'm so glad. This is kind of an extreme example of adding pink but it would certainly do the job in warming up the space.

If you don't try to illuminate the room, & keep the light confined to the fixture it should be okay. This is an accent light IMO.

@pattyjoy63 My gosh - what a pretty home you have. That light is perfect in your space. It ties in very well with the colored leaded glass transom windows above the doors. That grandfather’s floor clock case is beautiful - looks antique or at very least vintage. Thanks for coming back to show us the light in place.

Thank you! I feel like I can agree with you about the beauty of the house, without seeming house proud, because its been standing here looking beautiful for 150 years and will still be here, looking beautiful, long after I'm gone! I hope I can decorate it in a way that does it justice.

I watched a decorating show that used a very similar chandelier in a beautiful San Antonio, Texas Revival home that was being gutted/redone. They mentioned it was made with recycled glass bottles and was stunning and so is yours. The home had a beautiful injection of modern, revival and classic and the chandelier worked so well. Enjoy decorating and be sure to show your completed room.
