I think they both have outstanding quality fruit, maybe the best two of all the astringent kakis I listed above. I don't especially like Honan Red's growth habit, though. It seems like all the branches just want to grow straight up next to the trunk. Smith's Best has been a lot easier to get to grow in what seems to me like a good form. I don't know if or how that would come into play with a multi-graft tree. Smith's Best seems to maybe ripen a week or two earlier than Honan Red.
