top of kitchen cabinets -leave exposed or enclose them?
Comments (11)Every apartment I had was opened from top of cabinets to ceiling. I always decorated up there and was able to change the vibe of the kitchen pretty easily. I was not able to paint or do much with an apartment. My first house had the space enclosed, and I hated it. I'm not the type to put up a wallpaper border or hang plates or trinkets on the space, so I left it blank. Ugh. I painted & did some kitchen upgrades...because I COULD...it was my house!! Decor in that kitchen had to happen on the kitchen counter...and I hated arranging, moving, cleaning, and dealing with decor items in my kitchen work spaces. The kitchen seemed so spartan up there (because of my own choice to not hang trinkets in a straight line around the soffit). My current house...thank God!...has the open space and I don't think I could ever go back to a closed soffit up there. It's warm & cheery and happy up there. I don't have to devote counter space to "pretties" when I'm trying to run a household and get things done. I vote leave it open!!! Personal opinion....See MoreMixing stained wood kitchen cabinetry with painted cabinets?
Comments (15)We recently redid our kitchen and did the upper cabinets in a medium-dark stain and the lower cabinets in a cream/white milk paint. We also converted seven of the upper cabinets to window cabinets, which helps blend the two since some of the dishes showing through are also a creamy white; and we used the same new stainless steel cabinet pulls across all the cabinets, which helps pull things together too. We ended up liking the result even more than we thought we would! The upper cabinets have a nice patina/character to them, and the lower cabinets seem modern and clean. Both pair well with the quartz countertops, which look like white marble. Even with the darker upper cabinets, the kitchen looks SO much lighter and brighter than it was before, when the countertops were black and all the cabinets were an oak-y orange stain over maple wood. (Going two-tone this way - in reverse - is less typical, but I did find plenty of photos where this approach was taken in other kitchen remodels.)...See MoreProtecting cabinet tops and bottoms
Comments (4)Google Edgebanding...I've used it successfully on Ikea kitchen cabinets. It's a veneer that you iron on (it can be cut with an xacto knife, but the trimming tool looks like it makes for an easier time)...very simple and there are lots of colors available. https://www.veneersupplies.com/products/Wood-Veneer-Edge-Banding-78-x-250-Iron-On.html...See MoreKitchen cabinets - Paint Ready v. Comments (1)IMO if apinted is what you want go MDF for all painted cabinets with a factory finish for sure . All painted surfaces can chip but the factory baked one less often. Painted wood has no advantage IMO and MDF just works better since it does not expand and contract so no issue with seeing the tiny spaces in a painted wood form that movement....See Morelucky998877
