to float or not, help!

Major dilemma! Should this be posting or legs added to it?!? Our plan is to add floating shelves on top as well.
Please, I need your help!

    I think the modern look of the consoles is at odds with the fireplace. IMO putting them on legs and not doing shelving would work best, and change the mantel to a black, plain shelf. Put art and taller lamps over/on the consoles.
