I’m confused - you did do a full height backsplash on one side and are now questioning if you should on the other? I would have suggested to leave the drywall on the side (no splash) in the above image.

4" with full behind the stove. I did reclaimed marble like that and loved the look. I think the stone stands out more if there is a central block of it behind the backsplash rather than running it everywhere.

I'm curious too if you can cut back the side splash near your wine cooler so it is the depth of the upper cabinets in stead of going out to the edge of your lower cabinets?

yes, I did do the full height at the wine/coffee bar & now trying to figure out how to recover; and pull it all together.

Kendrah, good point re: pulling back to be even w/ the upper cabinets. I wasn't around for the install, to fix it i am afraid, will be real mess - but, maybe worth the new drywall & paint.

I would definitely do full height. I ’m in the midst of a remodel with a blue quartzite as well and we did full height backsplash.

Your counter is beautiful but I feel it is too much for the backsplash. In the coffee bar area, I would remove the side splash completely if possible. The backsplash also looks like the veining is running the wrong way (vertical versus horizontal). Is a white or off white tile backsplash out of the question? I would want to let your counter be the star and have the backsplash just be a subtle accent.

If you must do the counter material as the backsplash, then I would only do 4" everywhere except full behind the range. If you can do a tile backsplash, then I would do a full backsplash everywhere with no side splashes.

I agree wiTT, if possible lose the sidesplash and for something this strong i think the 4" is fine. But it is truly a matter of taste, not function.

A full backsplash with this particular stone would make the look/feel of the kitchen too dark for me.

I would extend the quartzite behind the range up to the bottom of the vent hood.

Elsewhere, install a 4” backsplash, including the area behind the wine cooler. If you leave the higher backsplash at the wine cooler location, you’ll have three different heights of material which, I believe, is one too many. And full height all around could be overwhelming.

I think that @champcamp 's picture proves the theory that to the vast majority of people, a full stone backsplash in particular stone can look overwhelming and dominate the kitchen. I'm glad they like it, to each their own. But, I can see most having a different taste.

Adequate lighting will have a key role with that bossy counter if being used for backsplash. It could be quite the look! Have you considered under cabinet lighting?

I have a very similar countertop, and I absolutely love it! My (non-pro) opinion is that it doesn’t work well as a full backsplash. Something about the contrast/scale… maybe it’s not bold enough to be the main focal point but not subtle enough to stay in the background either? Also it does look quite dark, so if you do decide to use it I would agree to make sure you find good under cabinet lighting with the right color temperature. I just think a tile could compliment the stone so nicely. Also it seems like if you use the stone behind your stove, then you’ll need to pull the stove out more?

I would try to remove the one piece of backsplash and start shopping tiles. A full backsplash in the right tile will make your countertop more special.
