5 Desks, Small Office : Need advice please

My boss rents an office space we have 5 desks w/5 desk chairs and each has a standalone file cabinet, a book case, a cabinet, a small round end table and a wide arm chair for guests. There a total of 3 windows. The 3rd is on the wall on the right behind the cabinet (shades are closed).

Believe it or not we have rearranged 3-4 times this year because 2 of the 5 project very loudly.

How about a room measurement and desk/furnishings measurements?

Acoustical improvements, rather than rearranging.

add as much textile/fabric as possible,upholstered chairs, rugs, drapery panels, panels for sound deadening are avalable online... look like stretched canvas'

I see the ceiling is already panels... even some white noise.

rather than individual desks, can you create a large desk? Is there any natural light? or are all the windows fixed?

Windows do not open so we have natural light but I think it’s the flow/energy of the space that’s drains us

I was just looking at the eiffel tower chairs on overstock.. I think they have an interesting modern look with a small footprint. My worry though would be how they'd stand up to daily use. As for artwork.. there are so many options but kids love animals. I'd look for some interesting artwork that your daughter will like looking at for hours a day that also incorporate animals.. I know many dislike them but I love the William Beard dancing bear prints. :) Good luck to your daughter!

I like the idea of a single daybed with a trundle. A queen is ONLY 60 wide, but it is 75 long....geeze, Louise, that leaves room for a pocket door to open and them to jump over the footboard and land in the bed? I would not even have side tables taking up precious floor space. I would have drop down shelves. You might do well to take a look at some of the newer motor homes, which have so many builtins including the bed. You can always think about a full size bed but that only saves 6 inches, since full is 54 inches wide instead of 60. Having lived on a house boat for 10 years and owned a 31 foot sailboat for another 5 which I sometimes stayed on, and then worked for 20 years on offshore vessels, I'm used to confined quarters where carpenters used every available inch for something. Is there a closet in this room? I'd remove the door to it and put all necessary stuff in that space. I'd even put the storage for their bags, and I'd also make any bed a storage bed with drawers below.....but only with a twin would you have room enough to open those drawers. Unless you just put shelves below the bed. Anyway, I know you wish to provide Triple A first class accommodations, but think about it before you invest a lot of money into a guest room. They might just as easily find space in the living room set up with a sofa bed and the door closed too. And you'd have that square little room for other purposes.

If you've got your mind made up re:desk, then you should have it. My space is only about 3' deep, and w/a chair, I would have been sitting in the doorway~~I took the door off and have a curtain panel on each side. There's a ceiling light, but I also hung wall lamps on each side wall for more direct lighting when using the computer. I have them about 8" from the top of the desk/shelf. I've also hung a large bulletin board on the back wall, with a few wall accessories/family photos. Oh, I didn't mentioned I painted the closet black, including the ceiling~~it makes for a very cozy space, as well as a topic of conversation. ;o)

How fun to design an office! I like the idea of facing the desks to each other. I'm thinking it might be better to put them under the window; no one has their back to the door and there might be less glare on your computer screens if they're perpendicular to the window. Distance between desk edge and the wall is really personal preference, but I think around dining tables it's a 32" minimum if no one needs to pass behind. I'm not sure if your existing desk tops can be paired with the Skarsta bases, but we really like our Skarsta. The base is adjustable with a hand crank so you can easily move your desktop up and down so you can sit/stand. It's nice to change position if you're working at your computer for long periods. With your desks below the window I thought you could put the file cabinet at the end of the desks and the guest chair in front of the interior window. We use Elfa from the Container Store in our home office and are very pleased. They can handle a lot of weight and you can design the shelves to work around your fridge. You can also hang varying depths of shelves (e.g. you could have shallow shelves above the fridge, but deeper shelves at counter height and below for a standing work surface and larger item storage if you need it.)

I need a to scale floor plan every inch marked celarly . Is ther ea eason fiel cabinets cannot be done so ech person can have a section then only one large one. Maybe explain the nature of your job. IMO if some users are loud then your boss needs to look at more space where there is some division to control sound.I think without the plan there can't be much help. We also need a lot more info. To me since ther eis no issue sharing a space surely there is away to share cabinets , bookshelves and file cabinet.

What is draining you is the lack of ventilation. If you can't'open a window, you should have several HEPA or MERV air purifiers in there. The very quietest and most effective air purifiers you can get are from Clean Air Kits. If you are willing to assemble them yourself (10 minutes) they cost less than the purifiers that come pre-assembled for you.

These are still equivalent to anything you can purchase from a big box store. If your boss will only buy a brand name, buy Levoit Core 300. But Clean Air Kits (designed by Corsi-Rosenthal) are not only quieter they are more effective if you need to place them near walls or close to big desks.

No matter which of these purifiers your office buys, the office will need to purchase more than one purifer based on the size of your office and the number of people working in it so you can position them around the space fairly. These purifiers are small. About the size of small wastepaper basket or a six-month supply of printer paper boxed. They are extremely lightweight and easy to move around.

It would help if you could do a thumbnail sketch of the floor plan, nothing fancy. First, take overall dimensions. Then, start at the corner and go around the perimeter of the room, measuring everything - corner to window > window > wall > corner > corner > door (including frame) > wall, etc. You get the idea.

Then, measure the desks and cabinets and the count.

I'm sure there is a way to figure out a plan that works and some sort of sound proofing.
