Fall Lawn care Advice

Aimee Willis

This is my first time living in a house that has actual grass and not just weeds. I live in South Carolina and purchased a home that was sodded front and back in January with Bermuda grass. We have an irrigation system.

Our water bills are ridiculously high. We have 5 zones that are set to 10 minutes each zone and runs every other day.

I do see some places where weeds are starting to come in, and there was one area that became a dead patch that the builders came out and dug up and resodded.

Now that it’s fall, I need some suggestions for what to put down. Do I need to overseed, aerate, and put down a pre emergent herbicide down? If yes, how does that work with watering? I know our soil is clay and could use some amending in some places.

I have read that Bermuda grass only needs 1 inch of water a week, but I don’t know how any of this stuff works.
