Vinyl railing installer needed
Comments (0)Hi all, My previous contractor did crappy job installing the vinyl railing. I had to terminate the job. I only have some of the posts already set up, few are not done properly. I'm looking for someone with experience to fix the problem with the posts and install the railing. It is 790SQ deck (including stairs) with IPE decking. I live in Leesburg VA...See MoreWhat would you do...installation error
Comments (40)The light rail on the cabinets is now 17 1/2 over the counter top and the bottom of the MW is 15 1/2 over the grates on the range. That inch actually made a big difference. The company did correct the many mistakes that I pointed out. If I had said nothing, they wouldn't have either, even though it appears they knew about it. The contractor or owners never came here at the end of a day to see what the subs had done. I was never told that they saw something wasn't done right and they would fix it, it was always up to me to look at the job that was done while I was at work and to then tell them what I saw. Then they would fix it. They basically finished the job yesterday because I insisted that the kitchen be done for Thanksgiving. At the rate of work being done one day a week, it could have gone on until Christmas. BF and I just started doing the finish work ourselves. The gas line to the range still needs to be adjusted so the range can slide all the way in, the hood isn't venting through the roof, cabinet doors are unaligned, none of the handles were attached to the drawers, molding is missing, etc, etc. But it was the witching hour (4pm) and they had to leave. They'll be back in a couple of weeks to fix the bigger issues, we'll do the rest ourselves....See MoreHow do you fix hardwood installation issues?
Comments (15)I hate shoe molding. It always looks dirty. I thought it was just my cleaning abilities! LOL. It looks like your house was NOT built straight!! I think it is just the floor that makes the walls look like they aren't square. The gaps shown in photo #1 aren't consistent along the board. One end might have an acceptable gap and the other end looks like the photo. Once you get to the end of the room with a couple of skewed boards it looks like photo #3. If it were a smaller room instead of the open floor plan, it might not look so bad in that corner. robin069 may have a point. But the flooring installers could have simply cut a triangular piece that would fit flush to the wall. Sounds like a triangular piece might be the "fix" for now. We are so far over schedule that if we don't convert our construction loan we will get hit with extra fees. I might not gain as much fighting over this as I'll lose in bank fees for not wrapping it up ASAP. It kills me to say this, but maybe I'll have to live with it for now and redo the floors ourselves at a later date. I've installed vinyl and tile flooring as a DIY project in previous houses. It took FOREVER because I wanted it right, but they looked good. I'm guessing if I can do vinyl and tile as a DIY, I can do wood floors....See MoreHELP me fix a major staircase error in a new cabin!!
Comments (65)There may, or may not, be a way to get a traditional stairway in there. Certainly it will require floorplans and some volunteer work to figure that out. We are missing a lot of information. My own opinion is that the loft space that I can see in the photo doesn't justify sacrificing a large amount of premium main floor space for a traditional staircase. We are seeing the kitchen and main living area, I assume there's a bathroom and bedroom on the main floor. It would be ridiculous to take up that much main living area floor space for a traditional stair that you would find in a 3.000 sq ft suburban home. That said, ladders, trap doors, climbing ropes, ball pits, jet packs, levitating carpets, etc. that don't meet code are not reasonable compared to a spiral staircase that provides code compliant stairs that are usable for an older person - yet very compact. Regardless of the current owner's intended use, if the property is ever sold, it greatly detracts from the value of the property if that space isn't totally legit. Again, we are talking about an older gent. First floor space is at a premium. The loft clearly needs to be useable, but is probably a secondary space. It's near completion, we don't have the option of a dramatic re-design at this stage of the game - so comments along the line of, "It's all wrong" aren't helpful. I'm not sure what prompts comments such as "... but spiral would be the worst possible thing to have" and "Spiral staircases are the work of Satan." - but they are not rational comments and are prompted by something other than the needs of the Original Poster and the given facts - I'm guessing a traumatic childhood experience, a serious bump on he head, or premature potty-training....See MoreRelated Professionals
