Well, she is planning to get crafty 😎 Our street is having its first ever scarecrow competition, judging is on October 16. Optimistically, I decided DH and I would participate and now we have to actually make the darned thing.

My favorite scarecrow (yes, I have one!) is Jack Pumpkinhead from the Disney movie Return to Oz, a family favorite. DH is responsible for making the frame (out of PVC) and figuring out how to make it stick in the ground. I found a great foam lighted oumpkin to use for his head and have replicated his outfit almost exactly with ebay finds. Now “all” we need is netting and straw, the frame, and to assemble it.. The opening of the foam head is quite large so we are also going to have to figure out how to secure it on the frame— possibly cut a round of rigid styrofoam and fit it in the opening, then make a tight hole for the PVC pipe?

Finally, Jack says repeatedly in the movie (which is great, btw), ”Would you please check my head for signs of spoiling?” so I ordered a 24” x 18” custom sign printed with that question for him to hold.
