we want to lighten the kitchen and 1st floor with new counter tops and floors. We plan to use engineering hardwood on floors but wondering if we should keep some of the carpet in the living room area. Will the flooring look too much? we love the comfort of the carpet and worry an area rug wont be as cozy but want to open up the space. Thanks in advance for advice!!

should we keep carpet by couch area?

if we do replace carpet, should we do tile by the door to protect wood floors from wet feet, etc

these are the floors we are considering (look a little more rich than this in real life)
