I wouldn't be able to sleep in that room without good light blockage and curtains are best for that. In a room where I couldn't do curtains, I would do (and have done) top-down-bottom up blackout cellular shades that run on tracks inside the frame to prevent a halo effect at the edges. Roman shades can't do that.
I think your shade is fine and too big your room becomes about the light fixture instead of the nature beyond.
