Thanks for the info on the tub-- we remodeled master bath about 4-5 yrs ago in home we owned but rented to our son--we neeed to find a smaller tub for space that the acrylic soaker was in-- ordered it at Ferguson's and think it was AS--was a fiberglass tub--not my favorite but wasn't that expensive and fit the space... Maybe if my husband sees there are no nice small tubs he will agree to the shower upgrade We are familiar with aging in place stuff--house we bought in TX has roll in showers in both downstairs bathrooms and some other features... but thanks for the link This shows the entrance into part of bath with tub and shower the area just to left of pocket door is linen closet--then the small shower--the toilet is on that exterior wall-- I think there might be room to extend the side of the shower closest to toilet a foot or so which can make a difference in such small space...but it would make toilet sort of lopsided on the wall spacing...

olychick, thank you for taking a look. :) I'm relieved to hear you think a white shower pan is best. I am heading out now to find porcelain marble look tiles for the shower walls to pick up the gray as you suggested. I want a shiny finish to the walls. Tell me if you think that's a misstep. I am avoiding marble as I have a marble topped vanity now that is pock marked with etchings. As far as seeing myself in the vanity, yes, I think I will be able to do so. I was planning on a black framed mirror spanning the vanity. My current vanity is 32 1/4" high (as will be the new vanity) and when seated on my vanity stool my reflection is seen up to my chest. The only issue currently is that my knees are pressed against drawers. I failed to mention that I was thinking of using absolute black granite for the vanity top for two reasons: one being cost and the other being to avoid etching. Will doing so deviate too much from my inspiration? I agree with what's already been said. Your layout makes sense because the tub and shower are about the same depth; thus, placing them on the same wall makes sense. The vanity is more shallow, so obviously it belongs on the other wall. Within the confines of this space, which is basic but serviceable, I think this is what you can do: - Scootching the tub and shower together /losing that empty space between them is a given. - I would rather have one sink and more storage. - If you're willing to go with a tub-shower combination and to downsize the vanity, you could eek out another couple feet for each closet. - Could you carve out another bit of closet elsewhere in the bedroom? - I would not go with a pocket door. They're ideal for spots where the door stays open 90% of the time -- like a laundry room or a pantry -- but a bathroom door is opened /closed too many times. Add in humidity, and you're going to have to repair /replace that pocket door sooner rather than later. - Can you have a window in the bathroom? Natural light always makes things nicer.
