for instance, you could fabricate a simple hollow wired box beam or a metal cage, and then dangle all your pendants and this exhaust fan from the beam, which you could suspend much lower over the countertop because it would be so much less bulky. You could make the box beam rather thin and flat. Just deep enough to enclose all your electrical needs.

This fan shouldn't be more than 36"about your cooktop to be effective, and personally I would double down on my ventilation by having a downdraft with the cooktop as well
