Are you committed to keeping that tv stand? Because a) it looks a little top-heavy with the size of the tv you have and b) a different stand could take up more room and leave the wall looking a little less bare. I like a tv console that is twice the width of the tv set it supports. If that were my room, I'd move the cat stand to in front of the window and put a large tree between the window and the tv. Then I'd get a floor lamp with more presence to replace the one that's there, and add crown molding to the entire room and call it done. Or put a low bookcase or chest or cabinet where the floor lamp is now, and put a lamp on top of that. The key thing is not to clutter up the tv wall so much that you get distracted when watching tv.

That is a great and simple arrangement. that TV unit is actually just an old 70s dresser my parents had and I painted and changed hardware to use for tv stand ;) I never thought about just putting the art on the sides like that instead of all around but I do like it so that may be an option for me. And I agree the chair doesn't go or match it just doesn't have a better spot right now. I might move it to bedroom just to get it out of family room though. Thanks again!!

I think the sectional is just too bulky for the room.. would it be that bad to leave the TV over the fireplace? what are the actual room dimensions? If you hang the tv on the short wall you need to have a way to watch without straining your neck.. what is the width of the room from fireplace (with the hearth) to the wall? option 1 - get rid of the sectional (yes it is comfy but bulky) and put a sofa facing fireplace, get 2 swivel chairs (recliners or not) to either face the tv on short wall or swing around and face the 'people' sitting on the sofa and a narrow ottoman for additional seating.. sketch the room on grid paper with as exact dimensions as you can.. option 2 - leave the TV above the fireplace but i would still replace the sectional with a sofa and chairs so you have more walk through space and the ability to move the chairs if you need to.

I’m still working on my room! I took a break for a while because I couldn’t find anything I liked. I did find this plant shelving thing that I like. My question is? Does it look ok with my picture or should I find something similar to put there? I just put some plants I have up there for now. I like the black one. I’m just thinking it’s not matching.
