Thank you msjay2u for the link to the vent extender and deflector which I know will be helpful in some rooms. I think as long as I do not put heavy curtains on my two windows in my bedroom and I treat them separately, I will not have the worry I thought since I will not need the 4.75" clearance I thought I did and 2.75" will just work. If I find that I need 3" and the sheers are too close to the vents, I love the deflector idea so the sheers will not be touching the metal heating vents. I guess no one knows what is best for my door since I have the links above. This post has helped me greatly since now I do not have to find a curtain rod a little bigger than 120" long and if I ever sell my home, I really did not want to block the balcony door but I could not see it any other way until all of you opened my eyes and I know one of the treatments will work. I still would like to open and close my sheers so I am thinking that 3/8th white rod with the cute pineapples on the end may be nice or the clear ones but the I am not sure if I will be able to open and close the sheers or lace. Does anyone on this list have the Shari or the Emma Lace and/or anyone can tell me which they like better since the Shari sheers I would have to order online and their white says "cool white" while the Emma Lace panels says only "white". I also still like the crinkled sheers in a less bright white but I am waiting to see if there are any other people who read this post who would like to vote. I got so much done today and that has made me realize to take my time and I will love whatever I do to my windows. Thank you. P.S. You can do whatever appeals to you. I can picture drapes where the check or stripe is at the top and the bottom with the toile in the middle too. I can also picture it where rather than being straight across, the seam is a gentle scallop shape to add more interest. A lot depends on the room and the look you are going for. In my guest room, I was inspired by toile, but found a fabric in the colors I wanted that was similar to a toile. Since the only thing looking into the windows might be a deer, I decided that sheers below were sufficient. I used the fabric to make pick up valances. I lined them with a solid navy, but that was because the trim I found to edge the valance was multi colored. On the bedding I blended another fabric with the valance fabric so the pillows tie the room together. I would consider cellular top-down bottom-up shades so you can block the bottom for privacy and leave the top open to see the sky and trees, if there are any to see out there. Also to let more light in while keeping some privacy. You can hang curtain panels on each end of the pole, keeping them clear of the heater. I had these heaters in a previous home and painted them the color of the wall. For the AC unit maybe you can make a free standing screen that blocks the view of it while still allowing air flow through it. Like three shutters hinged together. Or a decorative metal screen attached to the wall in front of it. Make it removable for maintenance, maybe hung on hooks in the wall above it.

I couldn't believe my luck! @Ilovered wow, Bond University looks amazing. Our son will likely be in Russia this summer for 6 weeks as part of a language immersion program. Then, I hope next summer he has an internship before he graduates! He wants a comfy bed, but beyond that he is pretty uninterested in the design of his room.
