In praise of Katsuratree

Katsuratree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum) planted about 18 yrs ago now around 40 ft tall, IIRC mail-order from Forestfarm. Planted near border stream, so never wanting for water. Leaves even underneath and very shaded are immaculate until frozen in my frost-hollow or if enough time turn a mellow yellow-orange. Never smelled any of the often-mentioned fallen leaf aroma tho.

Nearby seed-grown ginkgo a few yrs younger has done well. If the leaves look alittle skimpy, they are. The late April deep freezes damaged the buds enough that the leaves that emerged were about half the normal size. However, if you see the top, it actually put on good height growth this season.
