Looking for suggestions on this entry area (pics, long)
Comments (9)I guess this wasn't a very interesting question! Thanks to the two who responded. limogique, the three pictures kind of give you a panorama of the room. There's not much more to see. :) A few weeks ago, an interior designer actually came to our house and gave me some ideas for this space. (I posted about it in another thread.) She initially suggested getting a 48" chest of some kind to place to the left of the door (underneath the pink flower painting) -- she also liked the painting itself and suggested putting it there. An alternative was putting the bench in that position and getting a taller piece -- perhaps 60" high, 48" wide -- for the wall to the right of the door, something with glass doors, and hanging some of the artwork on either side. The problem with that for me is that we don't really need the storage space, and I don't like buying a big piece of furniture that doesn't serve some useful function. Another idea she had was painting the end tables a dark green, even suggesting a color (BM Sussex Green). It's hard to see in the pictures, but they are rather battered Danish modern knock-offs, probably not worth refinishing. We have been thinking of getting a glass coffee table, and she liked that idea (see the link for the one we like). So any thoughts? How about the recessed light idea? TIA. Comments (22)For now, here's where I am: I've moved the sofa to the big wall, and the chair/round table grouping in front of the bay windows. I like it! I've also decided to return the floor lamp, it's just not working anyplace I put it. I really like Beverly's idea (photo) with the grouping of several framed prints above the sofa. I have 10 vintage (late 1800's) fern prints that I could use. They aren't framed, but are matted and have non glare glass held in place with clear gallery clips. However, I'm not sure they are any better "fit" than the bird poster……. I need to find three table lamps--two for each end of the sofa, and another for the round metal table between the two chairs. Here are my three finalists for the sofa end tables: I'd change the shade on this one--I don't like the pleats: All of these are about 27"-29" tall, so I'm thinking the scale would work. As far as the lamp between the chairs in the bay window--I definitely want something different, I've reached maximum matchy-matchy status with the end tables and lamps! Feedback? Thanks again! Comments (3)I'd want more on this table -- maybe a low bowl for keys or mail, and/or a lamp for late-night returns. Comments (17)I disagree about not using family photographs there. To each their own but I cannot understand or get on board with the idea of shoving family photos away in a bedroom because they're somehow offensive, tacky, etc. in public areas of a home. Like anything else I think there's a tasteful way to arrange a gallery and the photos themselves and their placement within that gallery are also very important. I'm very particular about the photos I have up/out. I only have a few tabletop pictures sprinkled in the main area of my home that are moved or switched from time to time. I have a gallery wall in my hallway and one in my laundry room. The photos in my home are for me and my family to enjoy. The people that visit are family and friends. My house isn't a public location. It truthfully brings me more joy to see the photos of my family than any other decorative piece in my house. There have been some posters here who have also said people with gallery walls don't actually ever 'see' their photos so it's somehow pointless. I honestly look at mine daily....See MoreRelated Professionals
