What hardy fragrants am I missing?
Comments (6)How much room ya got? ;>) Are you looking mainly for herbs and perennials? Shrubs? Full-sized trees? The FAQ for the forum doesn't distinguish between hardy and non-hardy plants, since what's hardy depends on where you are. You might want to take a look at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden's handbook on fragrant plants, or Louise Wilder's "The Fragrant Path", which you can often find used. Both have tons of info. For a few extra picks, you could try one of the hardier gardenia varieties, abelias, magnolia virginiana or stellata, fothergilla gardenii, agastache, monarda, wallflowers, winter honeysuckle, nicotiana, some hosta varieties, sarcoccoca . . . . . . Enjoy! Jim...See MoreJust realized what I am missing !
Comments (12)As far as HVX spreading to other plants, that idea is pure bunk! I have an HVX plant growing right among some other plants and it has never spread to anything else near it. I am planning removing it soon, but as for now,it is still OK. And don't keep from buying a plant from some place other than online growers just because you're afraid. If I did that,I would have exactly two hostas now, because I don't buy on line. I bought 4 plants online back in 2005. Two of them didn't even make the first year, and the other two are still poor plants, and yes I can mention that it was Wade and Gatton. I'll go away now. Comments (13)Bernd- You have a point there. Too many new introductions are being marketed and sold w/o having been grown to maturity. A cool looking tc sport or seedling grows for 2 or 3 years and shazzam, get it out and sell it. Once I took the time to read thru the AHS "New Registrations" booklet only to discover that in some of the descriptions, it would say 3 yr. old seedling, or a sport that was discovered a year ago. No one knows how it will perform in backyards under different growing conditions. I rather enjoy some of the rattier photos of some hostas. It shows me how one will look under under different growing conditions. Carol Brasher used to take the photos for Mary Chastain's old website. Every one of them looked breathtaking. I bought a bunch and some were indeed beautiful, but not all. Sometime I get totally taken in by a leaf photo, only to not like the plant in more or less shade/sun. I wish one couldn't register or market a hosta that hadn't been grown out for 5 years, But I am dreaming again. Thanks BOB for all your diligent efforts in organizing and keeping up your fabulous resource The Hosta Library. -Babka...See MoreWhat am I missing?
Comments (9)The table, floors, and walls are very nice. And it looks like you get great light from those windows. I'd move that plant stand though. It is blocking the main window and doesn't create a sense of space with the outdoors. How about replacing it with the bench from the table and having your plants lower so they still get sun but don't block the windows? I agree that the bench isn't great to sit on. And the chairs just don't match the style of the awesome table, especially since they are white and traditional. I'd replace if you can or at least paint them. I also agree that you need a large piece of art on the wall or a gallery arrangement of smaller pieces. It needs to reflect your personality!...See Moredjacob Z6a SE WI
