[Edit: I just realized this is an older post, but I'll leave my comment for reference for anyone who may come across this searching on the topic of floating shelving as I was when I found this.} @Madi Larsen, I think your inspiration photo is lovely, but I think what is canceling out your cost is that you're taking what is basically one box with side-opening doors, cutting that box in half, and adding shelving. I'm honestly surprised the quote for your design isn't higher than just for the cabinets alone. If you were replacing an entire box with shelving, then you might see a lower pricing. The most ingenious application I've seen of shelving is to use it in what would otherwise be a blind corner between two solid cabinets on either side of the corner. If you have an area like that anywhere in your design, you might consider using this concept there to save money and open up the space if you want open shelving somewhere.

I'd also do two long shelves(three perhaps if ceilngs'height allows for that) along the whole wall. more storage, less visually dissecting the space why you don't want to run it over the stove area? any concerns? ah. oh. you probably have to have a vent hood there? if so-then two shelves along the rest of the wall. embrace slight assymetry-will be fine. pretty kitchen!

I’m not usually a fan of brass, but I think yours looks great. I don’t think you need to change the dining room fixture, it is far enough way and it coordinates with the polished nickel on the backs of your chairs.

Beautiful architecture! Floating shelves flanking the fireplace will mean there will be items on the shelves…may look too piece-y. Would consider furnishing those areas with less-but-more-substantial pieces.
