My parents house is like that, but there’s a wall with a wide doorway into the area with the vanity, so it’s open but also easy to close off by just putting a curtain rail up. It’s also oriented to the room such that if you only use enough light at the vanity to wash your hands for a midnight potty run, it really isn’t enough to bother someone in the bed if you place the bed sensibly. Getting ready in the morning would be trickier if you needed to do makeup and so on so needed proper lighting, so that’s where a screen or a curtain would come in.

I’ve heard it’s not great to leave things plugged in inside cabinets, maybe they could short out or something? The fact that it's in a cabinet is irrelevant. If a hair dryer shorts out while it's sitting on a towel on the sink out in the open, it may start a fire. If a plug works it's way loose from the outlet so that the prongs are slightly exposed and a bobby pin falls down and lands on the prongs and short circuits and a spark lands in the pile of tissues in the garbage can, it may start a fire. If those same things happen when the hair dryer is in a cabinet, it may start a fire. So if you were asking if you should unplug things when you aren't using them, then sure it's probably a little safer. Whether it's worth the slight risk for the slight inconvenience? That's a personal decision. It isn't a huge fire hazard and it has nothing to do with whether it's in a cabinet. If you pile flammable things on top of the hair dryer and outlet in that drawer and have to use force to close the drawer because there is so much stuff in it, then I'd suggest not doing that. :)

Ikea vanity looks really nice. Thanks for sharing. We looked at vanities from Wayfair, AllModern, Ikea, etc., but opted to work with a local woodworker. It felt good to support a neighborhood artisan. When we come up for air we'll have him craft built-ins and purchased add'l Walnut with that in mind. At this point the Brio valves are roughed in for the shower and wall mount lav faucet so there's no turning back. To clarify, my question is when pairing an undermount sink with a wall mounted faucet and 24x20 countertop for use in a master bath - what's the most functional shape or is there no discernible difference?

I think the problem is that those boot things etc don't have enough wide opening to fit the middle part of this installation. The opening seems to be 1.5 inches but then the fittings after are 2 inches, then the final part is 3 inches (which usually is covered by the plate). The other side of the wall is the kitchen which is now finished and all cabinets are up. On the plumbing forum, there was a lot of advice (but hard for me to understand) but one person said this "He used the WRONG fittings at the wall so they project out too far. Have him come back and redo it properly. He is not a very competent plumber if he doesn't know which fittings he needs." Which to me seems like he used what he had in his truck instead of what would work for this particular job. I will send the picture to a plumbing supply house if this stalls to nothing and I'm sure I can order in right fittings and have them redo it for me.
