I need a 'hang out' area in the backyard. Please help!
Comments (8)Hi, If you check Craigslist and other classifieds, and tell everyone you know that you're looking for bricks (or anything else) they may start showing up on your porch. I put out the word that I need bricks and in one month, there are over 1500 of them in my yard, all for my favorite price, FREE!! A friend of mine says that there are a few bricks everywhere. It appears to be true. If you get bricks from lots of sources and mix them up, they just all go together. Sand is cheap to lay them on. If you dig down in the soil to make the bricks level with it, you won't need rebarb around the edge to hold them in place. Some people on the Garden Junk and Trash to Treasure forums have made paved areas out of wood and other materials. You may want to post this question on those forums. There's a lot of wood being thrown away everywhere in the form of pallets and old redwood or cedar fence boards. You can build a frame from 2x4's or pallet 'stringers' and nail the fence boards on top of them to make a wood floor. If the termites move in, just throw it away and make a new one. (Treated 2x4's are inexpensive and shouldn't be attacked by termites.) Total cost-the price of nails or screws. If splinters are an issue, the boards can be sanded and finished with any exterior stain, sealer or paint. Anyone with 7th grade carpenter skills could help build this thing. You may be able to find a sale on new fence boards and be within your landlord's budget. The wood is far less work than bricks and will possibly be cooler to walk on. This answer has nothing to do with landscape design, just a few ideas about getting a cheap patio. Hope that helps, Linda...See MoreNeed help for difficult area please
Comments (21)Emmarene, no need to apologize, we all have different taste. You probably can't tell in the pic, but the bed is quite wide. Not huge, but appropriate, and the front yard is actually not that big. Because the house sits up on a hill a bit, both the front yard and house look bigger in pics than they are. did you see my inspiration pic for the landscaping? I plan on doing more Of the box woods sweeping the edges of the front yard, but could not afford to do it all at once. I did it just in the front of the porch this spring to have something to enjoy over the summer and see how I felt about that design before doing more like it. Some people have lived in my neighborhood for 3 years and not done any landscaping yet at all, so I am at least ahead of the game lol. also, I plan on posting pics on the home page, but it's been non stop since we moved in. We moved in right before thanksgiving, it was obviously crazy moving in over the holidays. Shortly after the holidays and trying to catch my breath, my mother became I'll. My life was consumed with that and she unfortunately passed away this spring. I'm surprised I got done what I even did but it kept my mind occupied afterwards. I will post on home decorating page :)...See MoreNeed kitchen area paint help please
Comments (3)Have you thought about using the creamy on the kitchen walls, and where the barn door is, but, doing the stairway, and the wall behind it where the clock is in the green. It appears like you have a wood piece that goes around the foyer doorway. Use that for your transition, and put the green also in the foyer. Make sure you have a lot of nice bright lighting in there. Your kitchen is looking very nice. I like it....See MoreI need help with what kind of area rug to get!! Please and thanks!!
