Clean Falling Rose Petal Variety or Type?
Comments (6)Thanks for the response michaelg. So the rose petals that fall off the mature bud and onto the ground are called "self-cleaning?" Too funny! Especially since the climbing rose and the bougainvillea are the only flowers I have that I'm constantly sweeping up after. Yes, dying buds are ugly too but I find it easier to just deadhead those. Perhaps I'll think differently after acquiring a few more. I don't have any other flower-types that I can really compare them too. Wait. I do have a gardenia, but I barely can get that to flower at all. I guess the rose petals can be pretty. But now that I'm paying them more attention, I thought having any disregarded materials nearby would be unsanitary and breed pests? No? The other thing is our home sits pretty close to the neighbors. Although I do have the best and friendliest of neighbors, I'd like to keep them that way. I live pretty coastal - San Diego, CA. About a 10 mins from the beach. Thank you for your help!...See MoreWhich Rootstock has white, 5 petal flowers?
Comments (5)Windeaux: The plant was advertised as own root, but obviously it was grafted :( It is Francois Juranville ( I think - I honestly forgot the name ) This rose is huge huge huge...it has formed a thicket which is ok for the area it was planted in. I love FJ's flowers and scent, so am happy with this part of the plant :) I hate these huge suckers it throws out.. which is extremely vigorous and a challenge to keep under control. FJ is going to get a haircut this year, along with Marianne who turned into an absolute monster due to my ignoring my garden for 4-5 years. Thanks for ID'ing the rootstock Ann :) Marleah...See MoreUPDATE: Petal Pushers July White Elephant Swap #5

Comments (93)Now I know it's quite premature to post these pictures, as my project is a long way from finished. However, I'm excited about my progress and I'm thinking that a group of gardens will be able to see the "potential" here. LOL! While you guys have been playing this week, I started work on installing a sidewalk between the end of the house and the new garage. The space is only about 8 ft. wide so my vision is to install this 4' wide walk and then (maybe next year) plant the sides with small hosta and similar sized plants. The walk in the picture is about 15' long. When finished, it there will be about 10' more walk at the 4' width and then it will widen into a "patio" of sorts for another 10-12'. We had a horrid rain yesterday that washed out some of my edge pavers before I got soil packed in around them but that's okay. It won't take long to get back on track. And, here is a picture of the gate I built last year with a plan to install it across the sidewalk, between the house and garage. One year soon, I'll be caught up with those of you who have nearly perfected your gardens. For now, I'm still installing structural elements....See MoreRelated Professionals
