I am looking at having black kitchen cupboards installed at our new house at the beach. We have heard that the black shows scratches quite easily. Is this really the case? Anybody with black kitchens have this problem?
I have a beach house and am in the process of putting in black kitchen cabinets. I love the look, and they will blend well with the dark grey couches that I have in both my living room and den as well as my black end tables and black fireplace.
Put whatever you want in your house. Frankly, if I see another picture of a white kitchen with Taj Mahal granite countertop and white subway tile backsplash... Let's talk there about cookie-cutter and stale.
Relative to your original question, if black wood cabinets/furniture ends up getting scratched, you can fix that a whole lot easier that trying to match the right shade of white, brown wood, or other paint colors. Black will hide any repaired gouges much better than white, brown (wood color), or other paint colors.
My cabinets are going to be slab cabinets, so there will not be all the nooks and crannies of a typical American kitchen for dust to be stuck in. They will still of course have the potential to accumulate dust on their top edges. But kitchens are heavily used and cleaned in normal day to day activities. So that would just normally keep dust at bay relative to other areas in a house.
