upgrading circuit breaker amps to one room?
Comments (4)No, you cannot replace the breaker with a 30A because the wiring is only #14 ga.. 30A breakers require #10ga. wiring. If you replace the breaker with 30A, you are inviting an electrical fire as the load would exceed the current carrying capacity of the wire. No sane electrician would install this. The only choice you have is to install NEW plug-in, wiring and breakers dedicated to your equipment. at 2000W, you will need a minimum of 16A(20A breaker) and at 5000W you will need a minimum of 42A(50A breaker). That is ONLY for your equipment....See Morelooking for advice on family room upgrade
Comments (8)1) those corner windows don't have any room around them [...] That totally may be the case! I was hoping that OP would go measure, and see if she had 8" between window and fireplace. I might even fudge it for 6". Less than 6", though, and I'd have to pull the curtains all to the *other side* of the window, instead of splitting panels on each side. But, I am a total fabric fanatic, so I realize that my rationalizations for adding curtains may not be completely kosher. :-) 2) I cannot figure how one would deal with those narrow windows above the main ones I've had windows and transoms separated by a narrow strip of wall, similar to the OPs, and I made the mistake of putting the rod in between them. :-/ If you want to elongate the window and appreciate the taller ceilings, then the rod needs to be mounted closer to the ceiling. I dunno, say, in line with the bottom of the fireplace trim?...See MoreFamily Room Upgrade Dilemma
Comments (11)I agree with acm that the sofa and table behind it should divide the room and face the TV. This will visually open the space that feels crowded by the stairs, and you can put a pair of armchairs (or swivels) where the sofa is now. You may really appreciate swivels if you want them both by the fireplace. The room feels heavy due to the overload of tchotchkes. Start with a pare down into warm and cool accessories by putting them in separate labeled boxes, clearing all the decor away (including pillows, drapes and art) so you can get a fresh look at the room. There is not really room beside the fireplace for properly hung drapes, so plan on replacing those with inside mounted treatments like Roman shades, blinds, etc. Can the glass front cabinet and art above it go on the landing at the top of the stairs? Or can the cabinet turn to stand against the stairwell wall? I would increase the transitional quotient with a more contemporary coffee table and floor lamp, as well as a piece of art above the fireplace. If you can afford to replace the rugs, that can make a huge difference in the overall feeling of the room. As for animal prints, I would limit those to pillows and such easily/cheaply replaceable items, as that vibe may wear thin very quickly. Judiciously put the applicable warm or cool accessories out, and plan to change them twice a year if you live in a climate where you can delineate in that manner....See MoreDesperately need help upgrading living room
Comments (11)first of all, in this day and age, it does not matter where your TV cable is - there are wireless transmitters available to send your signal to any wall. I would move that sectional to the wall the small TV is on. Then I would mount the TV on an articulating mount on the short wall where the sectional is now. I would arrange the two chairs near the fireplace. I would also change up those window treatments and clear out all those decor items around the fireplace. all the art is too matchy matchy to the furniture and hung too high. And definitely an area rug....See MoreRelated Professionals
