My Vanilla Strawberry blooms are staying just plain white

I'm beginning to think that the nursery sold me something other than a Vanilla Strawberry hydrangea. It's got big white blooms, but they are eventually turning brown, not pink as promised. What variety could they actually be? I bought it last fall, when it had no flowers and had already been winter pruned. I'm minded to dig this thing up and take it back for an actual Vanilla Strawberry. I didn't want an all-white hydrangea. The only other place I have to put one is the adjacent raised bed seen in the photo, to the right, and that is not 4 x 4, it's 2 x 4. Probably not big enough. There is good soil in the container, with some compost mixed in. I water the backyard--including the containers--with a sprinkler. There is excellent drainage in the containers, as they have only wire mesh on the bottoms to prevent rodents from burrowing up into them to attack roots. This hydrangea is in lightly filtered light, with the neighbor's tree giving a small amount of shade over it. It certainly gets plenty of light daily.
