Bathroom renovation--tile direction for bath tub wall and floor
Comments (7)There are no hard and fast rules for tile orientation. You can run them whichever way looks best to you. My daughter and my son both recently redid their bathrooms and put 12x24 tiles stacked vertically on the walls. They didn't have to decide on vertical vs horizontal for the floor because they used 24x24 squares on the floor. In my bath I have 10x13 vertical on the walls and 18x18 on the diagonal on the floor. IMO the large square tiles make their small floor spaces look bigger. Do your tiles come in squares too? Maybe you could put them on the floor. If you stay with the 12x24s on the floor placing then horizontal ( long side parallel to the tub may make your room look wider). You can still put the wall tiles whichever way you want. Comments (4)600?? are you serious? I'm in a big city and 350-400 was the going rate. supply and demand I guess. So, then if you get that cute shower curtain, just keep it pulled close. you won't even see the tub. and if you need the extra storage, you can paint it white. (sand the finish or deglaze it first, then paint it white w/a good trim paint. (not wall paint) or chalk paint it, fine sand it, and poly it. you could also do some open shelving w/spare pieces of wood and brackets if you like a farmhouse look use some wood to frame out the mirror, get a new light (cheap) I'm sure in the south you can find an old farmhouse hutch piece! paint it, or build one, stick an old window over it hang up their towels on some colored hooks...See MoreBathroom remodel help - to tub or not to tub?
Comments (12)Smaller windows above the water line, and a big shower. I have a 4 1/2 x 10 shower and I thought it was ridiculous (and to some it is) but I really like having my own area. .We have shower heads on each end with a rain head in the middle. If anything were to happen, it easily would accomodate a shower chair or an extra person if need be. We are in Florida so temperature and being chilly isnt a concern. I wouldnt dissuade you from building a big shower. You have to weigh whats important to you. I had the same size shower as you have in my last home, the larger shower is a game changer....See MoreHelp! bathroom tub shower faucet installation error
Comments (15)Is the back of the wall drywall and accessible? I'd be really tempted to actually fix this from the back side and take my chances on getting those three tiles replaced and keeping it waterproof. Don't beat yourself up over not having drawings. Drawings can avoid a lot of problems, but in this case you would simply have spent more money covering your backside - and it would all be for nothing because the guy is a pot head and a flake. Your first mistake wasn't paying him at the end, your first mistake was not kicking him to the curb much sooner. I get it that you can't bail at the first disagreement - but I'm not giving you grief after-the-fact but there have been a few people post on here about shower/tub plumbing getting to finish stages and not being right. For future homeowners -- you really do need to inspect everything in the shower / tub area before the walls go up. Once the tiles are on things get much more expensive to change. Sue him in small claims court. You may not get any money back from him, but guys like that should feel the heat of their mistakes. Don't forget to tack on storage charges for his stuff....See MoreRelated Professionals
