99% Finished Kitchen--creamy white w/soapstone
Comments (156)Beautiful, cozy, elegant! My black soapstone just came in. My cabinets are a very light maple shaker style. Appliances all Stainless steal. I will have an island. It's time to paint my newly sheet rocked walls. I'm leaning toward white with a different white for trim and ceilings but there are so many whites I can't decide. I am worried about making it too cold and sterile. Also thinking of a very slight gray perhaps on one walls. The kitchen has decent light but not great. The entry near sliding door has raja slate. I do not have high ceilings but they are 11 ft. It is not completely open to living room but partially open to dining room. Backsplash will be white sub tile. Any suggestions for paint color. We like clean, crisp, minimalist looks with straight lines but also cozy. Thanks for any suggestions!...See MoreAll White but soon to be Oak New Kitchen
Comments (10)Thanks all! Heavens, I can't imagine moving 12 horses; two was hard enough! Labbie, the backsplash tile is from a Japanese Company called Wa-Kei tile and I'll put the link at the bottom of the page. The tile I'm using in the kitchen is "Twilight" listed under Mosaic tiles. I fell in love with every tile sample from Wa-Kei that the showroom had. Gorgeous colors and textures.... I'd recommend seeking out a showroom as they have to be seen in person to see the subtleties. Here's another photo of the tile. I'll be using another of their tiles (Gashu) in the Mud Room. Kate, the interior dimensions of the two larger sinks are 21x18. My largest sheet pan is smaller than that so it's not an issue for me. For the few times a year that I might soak a grill or oven rack, I've got my utility sink if needed. I love the functionallity of the triple section being available for handwashing, rinsing plates etc and won't have a prep sink so it suits my cooking style to do the unfashionable triple! Archie, I'm still struggling with the soapstone source, I've fallen in love with Julia from M Tex in NJ but may have to install/go get ourselves if I can't talk Florida Joshua into coming on a northward trip. For Marmoleum we're using a place in Salem VA called Whitt Carpet One. There are two places in Charlottesville but we struck out with them.... I can tell you more if you email. If you're looking for tile, I highly recommend Sarisand Tile in C'ville. Here is a link that might be useful: Wa-Kei Tile...See MoreFinito! one more white/marble/soapstone kitchen
Comments (102)THanks so much, Willow. Yes, the marble is polished. The slab came that way, and I thought it was going to get honed, but it didn't. I decided to try it out like that, partly because it's so pretty, and partly because I thought the kitchen needed a little bling -- muted colors, matte soapstone, brushed stainless, why not try something polished? I do not baby it. I haven't left red wine on it all night or anything, but it doesn't seem to stain at all. I do not know what sealer they used; I will contact the fabricator and find out. It was in a big jug with no label, just sharpie pen "marble sealant" or something like that. I imagine they just refill from larger containers. Yes, there are etches. I pay little attention to them, they certainly don't jump out. There is so much going on in there, that frankly I don't think they are very noticeable. I get a lot of natural light, so there are trees reflected in it. And there are tons of different colors and shadows already, maybe you can see from the pic of the slab. Not only white and gray and gold but black and rust and beige and pale pale gray, etc. So maybe it's different than having something a little less active. Or maybe I just don't see things that others do. But so far, it's been wonderful!...See MoreTile floor for white/marble/soapstone kitchen?
Comments (19)We used a porcelain tile (I think - it may be ceramic) on the floor, using a pinwheel pattern. We didn't want a wood floor after looking at many kitchen wood floors in terrible shape during our house search. Also, we had to refinish the floors in the rest of the house and after that experience, I will never want to live through another sanding and refinishing of wood floors! The tile has a faux stone look and I still love it over a year out. I'm used to tile floors since I've always had them and the basement is quite warm beneath the kitchen, so the tiles are actually warmish. I'm too lazy to look it up, but you can do a search of my username and find my reveal with all of the details....See MoreRelated Professionals
