Ventilation for a wine fridge in Pantry room

We are in the midst of a kitchen remodel/addition. We are converting part of our garage to make a pantry room. We decided to put a wine fridge in the pantry to save space. The wine fridge is a built in, but I am not sure what ventilation I need in the pantry.

Do we need to add an a/c vent in the pantry room to help with ventilation?

What wine fridge are you buying? Where is the kitchen/pantry layout? A good wine fridge is temperature controlled, even dual temperature in many instances. In any scenario, in any climate, the shared exterior wall /garage is insulated as are all other exterior walls. Show the plan. The pantry shouldn't vary in temperature very far from the temperature in your kitchen

Yes. You should run HVAC to the new finished pantry space. You will also need an HVAC return in the pantry. These will keep down the growth of mold and mildew. You will want this even if you weren't adding any appliance to this new space.

Your appliance will produce heat and the pantry will be very warm if you don't put in HVAC. I did this myself by enclosing some area of the porch. The appliance I put in the area really produced a lot of heat.

I assume that your unit is freestanding or will be enclosed in cabinetry. You will need nothing else. However, make sure the finished space is insulated as if it were part of the conditioned space of the home. If you are carving this space out of a garage, you will need to be certain that it is built with firewall from the garage and that it does not share ventilation from the garage. This project will need a building permit in most parts of the country, there are always exceptions.

I should add that I'm talking about undercounter appliances in both cases. The only combo full size units I've seen (which we could put in the butler's pantry / wet bar) are very expensive. Thx!

My kitchen and bath renovations are scheduled to begin tomorrow. I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight! I, too, have a small kitchen and I live alone, so I opted for the Bosch 18-inch dishwasher. I preferred the conventional-type dishwasher thinking that I'd have an easier time fitting tall items. Turns out the 18-inch panel-ready is quite a bit more costly than a standard model, about $850. I treated myself and made room for a 12-inch wide undercounter wine fridge. Mine is a Danby, and I think it was $650. I'm pretty sure beverage cans will fit as well as the regular bottles of Champagne, but the larger bottles might be an issue. All the more reason to drink them quickly! Also a splurge was the Liebherr 24-inch wide refrigerator, but it makes sense in my pretty small kitchen. The narrow refrigerator allowed me to get a 21-inch wide full height pantry -- and, yes, it's made out of an upper cabinet with 3 or 4 rollout shelves and a lower cabinet with a narrow drawer and two deep drawers. I do plan to be here for the long run and since this isn't really a family-size apartment, I'm not too concerned about resale value. I just wanted what suits me! Good luck!

on p1 there's a thread showing some storage spaces - on the far right and down to row 13 (might be off by 1 row) it shows a drop down door front used as a 'desk' for a laptop. To the right of that pic is another that shows a file cabinet drawer. Or for the computer/laptop space it could be a slide out like used in the past on computer desks. There are options to think about. You could then still have a window over it with a cabinet on either side (with glass if you'd want that). Even if the view isn't so wonderful, the natural light is wonderful to have. Especially if you live where it is drab, dreary at times of the yr. Some people have had a window etched or frosted. I've seen pics of a window with a stained glass piece hung in front of it. Or even a sheer to fade the view but still let in light. I'd put the fridge on the run with the sink in it - for ice, water, stone, fire to flow. Just be sure there is plenty of space for opening the door(s) and a body to stand there - and not be in the way of the cook. I think on the back wall it'd be more likely to put someone behind the island.

Kristin - our fridge is counter depth. We have a filler at the wall but not between the fridge and pantry. Both fridge and pantry doors open fine without the filler, but a filler would have kept the pantry door from bumping the side of the fridge when opened past 90 degrees (which it doesn’t need to be, but people do it). To keep the pantry door from getting dinged I put a small rubber stop like is in the cabinet doors on the bottom of the fridge side. Not very noticeable but does the job. I think a filler on both sides would have looked fine, but it just wasn’t something discussed when we were planning because it wasn’t technically necessary for the doors to fully open, like the filler at the wall was. I don’t think the filler being out further would look funny. The fillers just look like part of the cabinetry. Our pantry and fridge cab are 24”, just like the other cabinets. The counter depth fridge sticks out slightly past that, but I am ok with that. Some people wouldn’t be. Little stopper shown below

You not only need climate control, electrical, correct foundation, vapor barrier, sill seal barrier, and all the other requirements of habitable space construction, but you also need to maintain the fire wall between the garage and home, and with no penetrations into it. If you are doing a door into the garage from the pantry, it has to be fire rated.
