What size mirror over a vanity with a tile border
I need help to figure out what size mirror I need to hang over a 66" vanity.
There will be a tile border around the whole mirror.
How much space do I allow under the light fixture and above the backsplash?
I don't have the countertop or backsplash installed yet, but I need to order the mirror, since it takes a while.
The green tape is marked how high the backsplash will come. The countertop is grey and the backsplash is the same material.

Comments (11)A few suggestions... There's a Restoration Hardware outlet at the Tulalip Outlet mall so you might find a few deals there. ( I remember you mentioned living in Edmonds, so it might be worth the drive up north.) Or, as Babs suggested, having a glass and mirror shop custom make a nice beveled mirror is very reasonable. When we remodeled our master bath we made a frame with some nice trim/molding that we bought from our cabinet maker (to match our cabinets) and had a mirror with an extra large bevel to fit in the frame. For our guest bathroom I found a simple, wide, solid wood, oversized picture frame at Aaron Bros. on sale for $20, and a local glass shop put a beveled mirror in it for me for $40. It looks fabulous! (We used a metal bracket called a hangman which makes it easy and safe to hang large, heavy objects.) In regards to the size, personally I think bigger is better, especially vertically. Comments (3)Your sconces are too high. They should be at eye level. The shades are too wide, leaving you with a mirror only the width of the sink, which will look odd. The time to plan all this out was before the wall paper was hung. Comments (6)In terms of proportion anyway. But you're right, round mirrors are a little different. I wouldn't get one any larger than 40". Also, if you get a frame you may want to match it to your hardware. Here is a photo of a round mirror with a size proportional to your vanity. last yearBetween the backsplash and the tile around mirror, I might worry about overkill. Here are ideas that may help, if open to changing.
last yearI did a tile border when I remodeled the master bathroom in my previous house. I used a glass "molding" from Oceanside Glass Tile to frame the mirror. I also had 3 sconces placed though the mirror.
The mirror needs to be done last ... don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If you have to wait then that is what you have to do, to get a mirror that is custom cut perfectly for the space.
I think your mirror placement is too high and won't be comfortable for most people.
The mirror height also looks a bit squat for the space you have and the overall proportions.
If your tile won't go to the wall, how do you plan to finish the raw tile edges? You will need a tile trim/liner or Schluter.

Just do a wall to wall mirror and keep it simple.
